I have an F visa with 90-day multiple entry. My 90days is ending soon so i have to exit/re-enter China.

I'm wondering if i can do this or get some sort of renewal or stamp at the Exit-Entry Bureau or US Embassy in Shanghai instead of having to fly to another country.

I've checked shexpat website - old threads, googled, checked the shanghai US embassy website, and called the EEB office a couple times and no one answered. Would appreciate assistance!

You can get a 30 day extension.
An extension will be, in effect, a new 30 day Visa.

Which will cancel/replace the current multi you have.

You do not say how long the Visa is good....but assume you would like to keep the remaining validity of the current one.

my visa is good until feb 2010, so i'd still like to keep it.

Have a weekend in Hong Kong or Macau. We all need a wee break from time to time.

weigh the cost of a weekend in HK / Macau against the cost of a new 1 year visa from back home, it's cheaper to just get a new one when you get back home. Course, a weekend in HK / Macau can be priceless

just go to the relevant gov office, they are well organised, efficient and cheap (vs the agencies)

Since your present visa is quite satisfying (1 year, multiple entry, 90 days for each stay), you can keep it by exit/re-enter to re-activate another 90 days.
HK, Macau, Tailand, Japan, Korea or the like can be the destinations for you to do the visa run.

Or you can find a visa agent to extend your F visa for another 6 or 12 months.
But when you do that, the present visa will be cancelled.

The visas issued in China mainland have NO limitation of each stay. Take a 6-month 2-entry F visa as an example, you can stay as long as 6 months without leaving if you like. The entries are only for your expected or unexpected travels. You don't need to use them up.

Is everyone ignoring the "agents" because they're con artists / passport thieves, or just because nobody likes spam? I would actually like to know what agents people use that are actually reliable, but I don't want to know it from any newly registered users, if you catch my drift.

One year tourist visas for Americans are not available in HK these days? Confirmed?

I flew from Beijing to Macau and back a couple days later for a fresh 90 days a month or so ago, and I spent less than 2k rmb including airfare and hostel. Cheaper than Korea or HK for what I needed. (I am based in Beijing)

I currently have a Z-visa through a textile factory I had been doing some consulting work for here in Shanghai. I was doing business with them and did a little consulting just to help get my Z-visa. I no longer work with this factory and will need to renew or get a new visa soon. My question is can I renew my Z-visa through the foreign company I am here working for? The company has no office here, just has me here to do sourcing/QC stuff. Can I get a Z-visa like that, or do would that be an F-visa?

If I do have to get an F-visa, does anyone know if China is offering 6 or 12 month F-visas for Americans, but without requiring you to leave the country every 30-60 days? I am cool with an F-visa, just hate leaving every other month.

Apparently an F visa would meet your needs. I don't have personal experience with this though. If you're really cheap you can always take the train to Shenzhen and then go to HK, so exits every 90 days aren't so expensive.

I'm pretty sure only a Chinese company or WFOE can get you a Z visa or extend your residence permit. You could just ask a friend who owns a company to do it for you maybe.
