Anyone been to Boracay from Shanghai?

Postby gnowyam » Thu May 24, 2007 4:21 pm

Am wondering if anyone has gone to Boracay from Shanghai before? I'm looking for good packages for two mid-June, so am scouting for reliable travel agencies for quotation.

Let me know if u've any idea!

Hi, gnowyam... I can't help you with finding a deal since I just contacted a whole bunch of agents for plane tickets and then booked the hotel using an online service. I wanted to say though that Boracay is absolutely beautiful and one of the best places to go to. I recommend that you stay at one of the hotels on the white beach side as you'll be much closer to restaurants and beach activity. I stayed on the other side of the island at a nice resort but it was a pain to have to drive back and forth through the island (which is not so nice and is full of fighting roosters). Have fun and good luck finding a deal. If you find a good deal out there let me know as I wouldn't find having an excuse to go back.

Isn't know the rainy season in Boracay? Philippines Airlines has a package from what I remember. Just go to their website and check it out. SH-Boracay via Manila

hi, try looking at the Philippine Airlines website under "Fares and Promos" - Holiday Packages. May is a good time to go to Boracay coz it's summer time and there will be lots of activities and parties.

Stay at Station 1 or 2 as it's the nicer part of the beach and near to the shopping, restaurants, and bars.

Thanks gothsusie, samuelo, mel & guel27 for ur replies.

At the end, i've booked for a return tix online (it's cheaper transiting in HKG), but need to layover in Manila for a night before departing for Caticlan (Boracay). Then, booked via a travel agency in Philippine for the domestic tix from MNL-Boracay, together with a great spa package with a famed spa resort there. June onwards is the low season now, therefore hotel rates are much more attractive now.

I've tried calling Philippine Airlines office in Shanghai , even during office hours but seemingly no one picks up the phone, so have give up on them. I see from their website that there's some great packages, but i see the small prints that it's applicable for purchase within Philippine only?

Thanks to all again.

You may want to look at the Manila Airport Hotel: http://www.airporthotelmanila.com/

It is a very basic, but clean hotel, less than 5 minutes away from the airport. We arrived in Manila after 9 pm, so it was perfect for us. They had a reasonable breakfast included.

Also, I found the airports a bit confusing, but you need to travel to the domestic airport for your flight to Boracay, which was about 15 minutes or so away. You may want to leave a little more time than you think for this trip as there is quite a bit of security to get through.

hi goggles, i've checked out the url for the hotel u mentioned, but it does seem rather pricey (rmb400) for a room? I'm checking out hotels in the city, as will be reaching Manila in the afternoon, therefore might still have time for a short look at the city.

i have had a nightmare last year to sort out a trip to Boracay , no travel agent ( out of the three i frequently use ) could sort me out with a deal and not even Philippine Airlines when I went to their office. So I just bought a ticket to Manila and went to Puerto Galera ( as it was easier to book a pick up car and a boat rather than having to book another flight ticket from Manila to Katiklan while I was there ) . A friend convinced me to rather go to Puerto Galera as he felt that Boracay has recently become a little overrun.

I've had the best holiday of my life there, quiet , clean, cheap as chips and a little room two metres away from the beach

Hi Gnowyam, that sounds about right, I think we paid US$55 or so per room per night. However, all the hotels I looked at in the city were all much more expensive than that.

There are also frequent warnings on various websites about the city of Manila. Particularly about the taxi trip and walking around at night. It is quite dangerous apparently. (Even in Boracay you'll notice all the hotel security guards standing around with some serious automatic weapons). As I have kids, I didn't want to take this risk seeing as we were only going to be in Manila for the night, so the airport hotel suited us fine.
