By who? I'm curious, how much of this was built from the ground up as opposed to lifted straight from ICQ?

But to answer your question, anyone use QQ Intl' to chat, I do, but reluctantly. The pop ups with news that I don't want is thoroughly annoying and can't be killed, plus the so-called "international" version still retains the downright kooky Chino-centric emoticons which, as a non-chinese, I can't relate to.

The best part is it's fast here in China compared to YM or MSN, but I suspect that has more to do with China purposely bandwidth-throttling the competition than good design.

Jeff was an avid QQ user
Since he disappeared back in Florida, not many people use QQ

Tencent is a sh1tty company, offering the good (Foxmail) and the worst : QQ laden with so many virus that it should be renamed HIV IM

If it's lifted from the Chinese version, expect some of the same viruses and spyware that was present in just about every edition of qq ever released. I would never use that load of shite on my computer. I don't recommend anyone else doing it unless they like their files and messages and everything else constantly being monitored for special "keywords".

Those keywords were found in qq 2004, then later in Tom.com's skype. What makes anyone think it's not in the International version?

Hi, gald to see the discuss.
Well, it's normall we've different idea and taste, tecent should learn from the public voice.

It's just a trendy, they develop Intl' version and made english web platform, more and more intl' ppl coming to CHN, esp BJ and SH. The no. of Intl' QQ users definitly rising.

Good topic, but have u received virus link in ur MSN messenger, hotmail and facebook ?
MacOS and Linux has no virus, MS Windows has many virus , so does that means most people in the world use MacOS and Linux?

The Chinese version of QQ already has security center , it check potential virus, spyware, trojan everytime when qq start, it should be available in Intl' version.

Frankly I'd rather use QQ int'l than the MSN Live messenger that's being forced down our throats (read: bundled) by big brother...funny how signing into hotmail will always bring back MSN Live messenger, even if you disable it in start-up.

In my opinion the best messenger still is Yahoo messenger...probably the only good product this company ever made!

Sunset, nothing is being forced down your throat. You just have to be smarter than your computer.

Two programs...

TRILLIAN http://www.trillian.im/

Lets you log into multiple services, but not qq, and it doesn't let hotmail or whatever mess with it. And it doesn't contain gov't spyware.

PIDGIN http://www.pidgin.im/

Same as above, and includes qq.

You may need qq to get yourself a screen name on there, but afterwards, just use pidgin. Skip the adware / spyware / malware crap called qq.

I use QQ very intermittently, but as I have a Mac, I use the QQ 1.0 beta (build 606) version. FWIW, that version was certified "virus, trojan and spyware free" by Softpedia on 22 April 2010.

The Mac beta has extremely limited functionality - it's just a basic messaging client - but it's completely free of pop-ups. Good enough for me.

I also use Skype and MSN Messenger (for Mac) depending on who I'm chatting with.

I've noticed that real-time chat was all the rage 3 or 4 years ago, but hardly anyone on my MSN list bothers to login any more. Has chat gone off the boil these days? I thought it was a wonderful way to have a casual conversation with friends while still being able to get on with other stuff.

Ultimately Skype is the winner, because I see more people logged in at any one time, and can therefore initiate chats with them when I please.
The bottom line here is we must lower our cost base to make room for a lower margin product mix world and to grow our earnings going forward.
