ART EXHIBITS-MUSIC

Postby Cristina Bertrand » Fri Mar 14, 2008 5:57 am

Hi everyone,
I don't know if this is the right forum, I will be in Shanghai during July and August and I am wondering if someone knows the art galleries there so he/she can show me some interesting. I am a artist (painter) and writer and I am also interested in oriental philosophy. I am about to publish a book about the I Ching in English and Spanish because I did my doctoral dissertation in Spain about the I Ching book.
Also, I am curious to know if Shanghai has good classical music. I used to go to many concerts when I lived in Madrid, and also when I live in Los Angeles but now that I live in Miami Beach, unfortunately, there is not good classical music here.
I also would like to learn salsa...
Anyway, I hope someone could help me in that. :D
Thank you,
Cristina Bertrand

Wow, Christina, that's quite a lot to get done in two months. As for galleries, check the listing on http://www.cityweekend.com.cn/shanghai/ ... ibitions/?. You might also want to check out several of Shanghai's art museums. There are many and they should also be listed on that site. My favorites are the Shanghai Art Museum, MoCA, and the Duolun Museum depending on what's on exhibit. If you do a search for "salsa" on that same site, you will find a few dance studios and several clubs that offer salsa lessons. Concerts get announced disconcertingly slowly here but that same site will let you know what's on. Wandering around the Shanghai Conservatory is another way to get to hear some nice, free music.

I'd offer to show you around but I'll be leaving before you arrive. Be warned --- Shanghai is swelteringly hot in July and August.

Hi Cristina,

sbergman is right, jump onto city weekend online for gallery listings. In my opinion you should visit Moganshan Lu, Taikang Lu, and wander around the French Concession streets like Fuxing Xi Lu. I'm an artist too and these are the areas I find inspiring. I'd be happy to show you around providing I'm still around! I have to visit Australia around July but PM me when you have exact dates.

Sorry but I haven't gotten into the classical music scene over here. Perhaps you can find some info on city weekend online too.

Thought that's about the only thing Miami's good for! Try the JZ club on Fuxing Lu. Friday night is salsa night, and think they teach early in the eve, but not so sure.
