2000RMB

Instead of using your computer to call, you can use a phone which uses your account, has your contacts etc just like skype on your computer (limited features obviously) but you can do it anywhere you want - around your house, at work and in different countries. You can still call computers, mobile phones and landlines. As long as you have internet access (wireless) you can call out.

the problem with this phone is the life time of the battery, you almost have to have the power plug plugged all the time, even changed battery.

Yes right.
I have one of these and the battery life is a real joke. It cost me 6000 NT$ in Taiwan last Summer - around 1400 RMB. I gave up using it because of the bad battery life but if you are interested in a second hand one PM an offer.

If you just want to be "mobile" after you make a call, try "jajah.com".

Hi all

Do any of the tech heads on the forum know whether this is worth bringing with me?

that argos one needs the computer to be on and online all the time - we brought the Phillips 841 Voip internet phone with us from the UK and it has been brilliant - so much easier than having the computer on - I can't actually remember the last time I used the landline..... and family at home are much more inclined to phone up just for a chat when it doesn't cost them anything. Having said that - no idea where you can get them here - we tried to order another one on amazon but it has restrictions on sending electronics outsie UK. John Lewis do sell them and will send abroad but it isn't the cheapest way (though can't imagine it will be more than rmb2000!)

the other thing we brought that is invaluable is a wireless internet radio - no idea where you get one of those here either!
