Hope that wasnt directed at me - my daughter was only lamenting the fact that she wasnt Korean - she WANTED to have that wonderful support group!

Heh, it sounded more like it was directed at a fellow educator in administration. :D

It is amazing how different people, from different cultural backgrounds, growing up with different philosophies, can meet up in a forum to exchange viewpoints.

Hello,
I am going to live in Shanghai for the next 2 years with my family.
Also I struggle with the best choice off school for my 2 daughter age 9 and 12.
My local company suggest SHS-ID and I had a good feeling about the idea that they would pick up on Chinese culture and language there.
But in the beginning of the forum SHS-ID is judged as worst choice. Does anyone know if this is changed over the years?
My kids allways lived in Holland untill now and we will return there in 2 years.
So I don't want them to have a big gap returning to Dutch school in 2 years.
Thanks in advance

Serious!? I thought LAS runs the American curriculum, and teaches in English at native standard! Perhaps that explains why LAS has such a strong ESL programme.

Some of my former pupils have moved there (the school fees are lower) and according to those former parents I have kept in touch with, they are quite happy with their kids there.

SHS uses the American curriculum. I am not sure how big a difference it is with the Dutch curriculum.

Hi, anybody is familiar with Fortune Kindergarten on Dongfang Road? I called SAS Pudong and they only accept kids older than 4. My son is 27 month now. I am thinking of sending him to Fortune Kindergarten before he goes to SAS at 4.

Thanks

Just enrolled our son there. Seems very nice and reasonably priced. Could give more details in a few weeks once we have a better feel for it, though we wouldn't haven't sent our (similar aged) son there if we weren't pleased with what we saw.

Hey there, thank you for your response. Did you enroll your son in the Dongfang Lu campus? When will he start?

According to me it's Shanghai Pudong school because my niece and nephews are studying there right now. And I think that school has really good standard of education and that's completely international.

Hi has anyone heard of Eastern View School in Pudong? Or Maybe it's called Shanghai East Century School. It looks like a private Chinese school trying to offer an international curriculum. But nobody talks about this school. Any information from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Also can anyone offer any information on Shanghai High School's primary campus in Pudong? I haven't heard anything about their primary school campus. I would love to hear both the good and bad from anyone willing to share.

Thanks for your help. We'll be coming on Friday for our look/see and need to figure out schools for our 3 kids 5, 7 and 9 years old.

I am moving to Shanghai this Sept and will be working in Zhangjiang area. I like small daycares such as star and strips. Unfortunately, they don't have a Pudong campus. Does anybody know a similar daycare in Pudong?
Thanks,

But since 2004 they also have the elementary school, is not as pricey as the other international schools.I agree is kind of new; but is IN the SHanghai ZOO in gubei hong qiao area, so the emphasis on science is strong. I've been in China for 8 + years teaching; and this school is one that looks promising: Is small if you compare to the other big international schools; but compensate for the effort to have individualized education, it is worth a visit.

I am going to send my son to RBIS in fall this year, early years classes, hope it is good, the school is near my home, and it's Amercian School, so we will see how is it

Postby lucazhou » Fri May 28, 2010 8:51 am

hi everyone my name's luca and i'm currently doing a 1 full year academi year in a public american high school as an exchnage student.
i was born in in italy and attended schools until the third year of high school..then i went to usa to do this exchange program.
My plan after the end of this program has always been to attend my last year of italian high school and graduate there getting a diploma.
and after that i wanna go to england to study college.
i'm of chinese origin and i was thinking instead of going back to italy ( i'm leaving on 1 july ) and then finish the high school in italy...go to shang hai to an international school where i can learn chinese ( my parents are both chinese , i took 3 years of chinese classes but i forgot a lot of things ) but at the same time able to get a good diploma with which i can get into an english college.
i'm going to get italian passport this summer...will this be an obstacle?
my idea is to go jincai international high school where i could study an english program for getting a diploma and at the same time i would be able to learn chinese because there are many chinese and the school is not that ' westernized' like others.
i was born in 1992..so i'm 18 now..and i 'm thinking to do 2 years at jin cai as a junior and then as a senior..and then get a diploma and then go to england....any tips ? any reccomendations for other schools that are more suitable for my situation?
how much is 1 full academic year at jincai?
thank you

Our family is moving the Shanghai in August. Our daughter is going to be in year one or two at SCIS. We have decided to live at Green Valley Villas in Hongqiao. ( near the Zoo) Our son has just turned 4 and I have found that most of the preschools and kindergartens only offer a 5 full day program which I think is too much of a transition from Australia where he is going two days only. The two places I have found that offer half day programs are Rainbow Bridge international school at the Zoo or Bright start academy.
I visited Rainbow bridge and did not find it overly inspiring although we only spent such a short time there and it was the first place we visited so had nothing to compare it to. Have not been to Bright Start yet but have heard good reviews on this forum. Is Bright Start a long distance from Green Valley Villas? Its hard to get a sense on the map of travelling time. I would love to hear some first hand experience from other parents about Rainbow Bridge and or Bright start if possible. One other question, if he was going to go to SCIS preschool campus do the students always have to attend the 5 full days? Or what happens if they only attend 3 out of the 5 days? !! Not very economical but just a thought!
thank you

LUCAZHOU -- Have you considered going to a British International School? I'm pretty sure when applying to universities in the UK this would look much better. There are several in Shanghai. My kids have attended the British International School Shanghai for several years now. Having experienced 2 of the 3 campuses, we preferred Nanxiang campus because of the smaller class sizes. However, our kids are very happy with Puxi campus as well. Check their site www.bisshanghai.com or PM me for more info. Good luck!

Does anyone know where I might find a list of schools, running an American or British curriculum, located near the XuHui area. We have two girls: 5 and 7. Adrienne was kind enough to mention SCIS and Yew Cheung. Are there any others out there I should be looking at?

Thanks,

LUCAZHOU - Only Nanxiang campus goes up to 16 years old, because it's a smaller school. I know the other campuses, Pudong and Puxi, offer the IB programme which goes up to 18 years old. Best to check those campuses! Good luck

Hi all,

I got a task given by my wife to find her sister 13 years of age an international school.

A few details to help you guys help me if you can.

The girl is of 13 years of age, lived in china all her life. She is learning english at the local school. but her family wants her study to improve cause she is in the bottom class. Now we are finding the option to send her to an internation school in shanghai. THis is to improve her studies and also to try and improve her social skills and expereince other cultures other than chinese!!

Now me being British, I would prefer it if she goes to a British international school, but i dont know if there is any in Shanghai. I read about the American SAS in Pudong. would that be her best option?

Are there any others in the Pu dong area?

cheers all

Romeolo,

If your niece does not have any parent using a foreign passport with a valid work permit, she is out of luck - the SEB will not consider her at all. On the other hand, if her parents have green cards, they can make an application to the SEB as a Chinese returnee, to attend an international school.

I will assume that she resides in China with a work permit (for foreigners and HK/Macau/Taiwanese). If so, it will not be problem. The SEB is getting really strict on such issues since a few years ago.
