I've never been to one in shanghai, but from past experience in another cities, i say you can expect a room with sofas, mics, computer?+vcd and a book where you can find all the chineses/english songs available.
You can expect whores too but thats up to you if you are into such.

Price? no idea, always been invited by suppliers that wanted me to drink a lot and try to pick some of the whores, they believe thats a good idea to get "more orders".

Why not go to a bar, personally, i think ktv's are not a big deal, but sure i might be wrong

You can visit www.haoledi.com. Because i have been there. Seems like there are many outlets in every district. I like singing. In the ktv room, you can find english songs and chinese songs on the computer. or you may visit www.shgcktv.com. The situation is the same. If you find difficult to play with computers there, you may ask me for help. We can enjoy ourselves together.
