For me it has to be Jake Thackray - On Again, On Again with "I love a good bum on a woman, it makes my day".

What say you?

^ No contest for me. I adore this woman. What a gem she was, with the voice of an angel. It breaks my heart just to think of her. No one did heartache and yearning better.

The question was - what is the "best opening line of a song?". Beautiful woman though.

Here ya go then...

Darkness at the break of noon
Shadows even the silver spoon
The handmade blade, the child's balloon
Eclipses both the sun and moon
To understand you know too soon
There is no sense in trying.

I want you to know, that I'm happy for you
I wish nothing but the best for you both
An older version of me
Is she perverted like me
Would she go down on you in a theatre
Does she speak eloquently
And would she have your baby
I'm sure she'd make a really excellent mother

I'm broke but I'm happy
I'm poor but I'm kind
I'm short but I'm healthy, yeah
I'm high but I'm grounded
I'm sane but I'm overwhelmed
I'm lost but I'm hopeful baby
What it all comes down to
Is that everything's gonna be fine fine fine
'cause I've got one hand in my pocket

There's a few...

"The young man stands on the edge of his porch"

"Affirmative may be justified, take from one give to another"

"Mine tarme skriger i munde på folk der snakker ondt om rakkerpak som mig"

"Follow me into the desert as thirsty as you are"

"Someone falls to pieces, sleeping all alone"
findus: "We can create, philosophize, build and conquer until the cows come home, but a good set of boobs (i.e. all boobs) makes men's world go around. Such fcuking simple beasts."

On Shanghai Expat there can be only ONE answer:

"Saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand"

(Yes, my hair is perfect.)

"I work so hard, don't you understand
Making maple syrup for the pancakes of our land."

Suicide remarks are torn

You say you want your story to remain untold

Joni Mitchell:

Just before our love got lost you said
I am as constant as a northern star
And I said, constantly in the darkness
Where's that at?
If you want me I'll be in the bar

Can't go wrong with Joni - especially when she's quoting Shakespeare. ("Julius Caesar," Act 3, Scene 1.)

I'd rather be punched in the face
Be sprayed with some mace
Than be head over heals
I'd rather be hit by a truck
Then be totally ****
I know you know how it feels
I'd rather be buried alive
Than be living a lie with somebody like you

Not sure if you're a Joni or Shakespeare fan, I'm a little bit of both. :) At the risk of sounding like a nerd, the reference to Caesar's "northern star" speech before his fall succinctly gives a clue to what the spat was about and makes me appreciate Joni's retort even more.

I dont usually like country songs but this, about freedom in relationship. I like that...
won two grammy awards in 1968

It's knowin' that your door is always open
And your path is free to walk
That makes me tend to leave my sleepin' bag
Rolled up and stashed behind your couch
And it's knowin' I'm not shackled
By forgotten words and bonds
And the ink stains that have dried upon some line
That keeps you in the back roads
By the rivers of my memory
That keeps you ever gentle on my mind

..and 1969 a good year for sexy cowboy thongs ....

Everybody's talking at me.
I don't hear a word they're saying,
Only the echoes of my mind.
People stopping staring,
I can't see their faces,
Only the shadows of their eyes.

She can kill with a smile
She can wound with her eyes
She can ruin your faith with her casual lies
And she only reveals what she wants you to see
She hides like a child,
But she's always a woman to me
baby if you strip, you could get a tip
