Biggest and best Apple mac store - where?

Biggest and best Apple mac store - where?

Postby camelina » Sat Jul 07, 2007 1:02 pm

Where is the biggest and nicest showroom /shop of mac stuff where you can actually see it all there and try it out?

I have seen little stands everywhere with the Apple Logo.. and including the store in Carrefour Gubei but it hardly has anything apart from ipods.

Best Buy had quite a good selection but I want to find a good dedicated store (so I can test it out, ask Qs , etc, upgrade my Powerbook, etc.)

Somewhere in the Puxi central area.

Thanks.

btw the list of stores is here.
http://apple.com.cn/store/reseller/product.htm?city=6

But I can't very well ring them all and go 'hey is your store big?' etc.. ;)
Also I can't read all the characters :(

BEST BUY in Xujiahui!

It is right across from Metro City (Meiluocheng) shopping mall - next to McDonalds. You can't miss it.

A colleague of mine wants to buy a MacBook for his son.

He wants a 2.16 ghz with 2 GB RAM, 120 GB hard drive, a superdrive and Apple care. The best price we got this morning was 15000 RMB.

Can he get a better price without going to Hong Kong? Where should he go? Can you buy online? What do people think about Apple Care?

An Apple store has recently opened on Nanjing Lu across from the JW Marriott. I have not been in to check prices but from my understanding Apple is consistent on pricing regarless of geo. Just walking buy the store looks like any Apple dedicated store I have seen elswhere and has iBooks, iPods, etc.

@Camelina: you keep saying you want to upgrade your Powerbook but what does that mean? Replace it or add memory or what?? There aren't any HUGE Apple dealers here unlike the huge Apple store in Regent Street in London but you don't need it. The smaller shops all know what they are doing.

@Matty: I bought mine yesterday from Huang Pi Lu computer mall. The top of the range (black) Mac Book, 160 GB (NOT 120 GB) hard disk, added 1GB RAM (so 2GB total). Cost was 13,500. In HK this would be 11,700 plus 1,370 for the RAM upgrade from 1GB to 2GB which makes 13,070 HK$. So basically it cost me 500 more to buy it here. But of course, this being the mainland, they installed Windows XP, Photoshop, Office etc free of charge so it ends up being a good deal!

@Matty
you should wait a while until leopard is released in october, and APPLE care is a must. Try the Online store

@Computer Solutions
^ Is this the price for the Macbook, or the Macbook Pro?
How much for a 17 inch Pro with 4 gb Ram, High res glossy screen + apple care 3 years coverage?

@YorkshireKing, 17" 2G with 1920x1200 screen is 22,100, have to check for prices on 2G DDR not sure offhand.
Macbook, you really think you'll get a Macbook Pro for that price? ;)

Got prices on Apple Care - its +1500 for iBook, +2200 for MBPro (when purchased with machine)

So Matty, we can do yours for 13K.

I hacked my first Apple iTV for a client today - I might get one for myself, they work *very* nicely.

Adam, I'm not sure you have been reading any of the comments. My Mac cost me 500 RMB more here than in HK (13,500 vs 13,000). That won't cover a flight!

@robjehan - I recommend Parallels (highly!)

You actually find you use XP less and less, there are very few programs that aren't already on Mac, or that have mac equivalents.

@Lawrence - I have the same partition setup as robjehan. I might need your help to setup Parallels. But I have to say, I am SO happy with my new Mac. I didn't expect I could see common files and discs but my USB external WINDOWS hard drive is fully readable when using OS X now whereas before I'd have to copy to a CD then read into the Mac. Life suddenly became a lot better!

The new parallels is awesome, you can run stuff in windows at the same time as mac, no rebooting, and its seamless. That said you start to use it less and less as time goes by.

If only I could lose MS Office, and life would be complete ;)

@Lawrence / Computersolutions

What can the hacked iTV do now?

Any chance you know how to hack the iPhone? I see there are a couple of different ways to do it. One of the guys at the Huangpi/HuaiHai Apple store has a hacked iPhone. Forgot to ask him if they were able to setup with pingyin/simplified chinese input.

What's your price on the new 24" iMac basic setup?

Thanks,
Troc

iTV does whatever it does - plays video. Some small issues so far - sometimes have to power cycle the iTV and/or TV to get a signal, but I think thats HDMI woes, rather than anything else. HDMI==headaches...
iTV - http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/Main_Page
I stuck to 1.0 firmware on the iTV. Too much of a hassle to do a mixed upgrade for the benefits.

iPhone - perhaps. I'm just following stuff here - http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
I'd wait - Chinese support is more important than having a new phone, otherwise I might have bought one if I still didn't have a phone I was happy with. I'm happy with the phone I have - e61i. I'm not too into not having a keyboard.

@Sanj, will PM you later, but the White Macbook doesn't have 160G, only the Black. I can do an upgrade though if thats really what you wanted.

www.joyo.com.cn (Amazon China) has some pretty decent prices on Apple stuff. Cheaper than getting it at an authorized retailer store. iPod shuffle was 788 at Superbrand, but only 699 on joyo
