Book Exchange: Free books!

Postby Rosario » Tue Oct 31, 2006 3:17 pm

Hi everyone!

Here's some info on a Book Exchange group that meets every month. It's a really fun, fuss-free (and non-committal) way of sharing books and getting new ones for free.

Read about it! If you want some more info, just post a message :)

BACKGROUND INFO AND NEWS on SHANGHAI BOOKCROSSING

The Shanghai BookCrossing group has monthly informal meet-ups for bookcrossers and other avid readers in Shanghai, where we talk and swap mostly English-language books. Shanghai BookCrossers was inspired by the concept of BookCrossing (if you're unfamiliar with BookCrossing, please take a look at www.bookcrossing.com). Anyone who loves to read and share books is welcome to join. We meet on the third Saturday of each month, 2pm at Figaro Coffee Company on 160 Xingye Lu. Joining is free, fun and easy.

Next Meet-ups
The next meet-up is on SATURDAY OCTOBER 21th, 2pm at FIGARO Coffee Company on 160 Xingye Lu. Over the next months, meet-ups are planned for Saturday November 18 and December 9, again 2pm at Figaro.

Directions
Figaro is on 160 Xingye Lu near Madang Lu, in a block called Jin Lin Tian Di, next to Xin Tian Di. The nearest metro station is Huangpi on line 1, with exits on Huai Hai Lu. If you need help finding your way, give the friendly Figaro people a call at 6384-7242. Figaro Coffee gives the monthly BookCrossing meet-up a 10% discount on optional coffee and food.

First Official BookCrossing Zone in Pudong

Recently, House of Flour has become the first Official BookCrossing Zone (OBCZ) in Pudong.

An OBCZ is a place where a BookCrosser, with the permission of the location manager, sets up a box, table, shelf or corner to become a centralized location for exchanging books. This way, BookCrossers have an accessible, comfortable and safe place where they can leave books that are almost certain to be picked up, and can almost certainly find other books left behind.

Besides House of Flour (at Shanghai Legend, ZhangJiang Metro), Shanghai has two more OBCZs at Figaro Coffee (160 Xingye Lu) and Somerset Xuhui (888 Shanxinan Lu). In the last weeks, dozens of books were left at these places, for anyone to pick up for free. So if you are in the area, an OBCZ is worth a visit!
