American Psycho... too gruesome and I was trying to finish it this morning, but it nearly made me throw my breakfast up!

If you don't like it then you don't read it. What's the big deal for that? You are too overreacted.

Hence, if you don't like it after reading it, you will never read it again.

when I read the topic title, I thought "American Psycho" before I even read your post! The book disgusted me so much, I stopped reading it and tore the paperback in half and threw it in the trash.... Hows that for overreacting!

I never finished American Psycho either. Was on vacation and borrowing it while living at a friend's house, and glad to move on to the next country!

unfortunately, no matter how much i despise a book, i always have to finish it. that said, i won't read certain authors because they rely on formulas too much and nothing seems to change but the character names, locales and plot details. also avoid the majority of crime books like the plague.

never read american psycho... may have to see what makes it so horrible!

AP is a great book. Is it wrong that I found it hilarious at parts?

I have the same problem. Once I start a book, I have to finish it.

Everyone at my old workplace was talking about American Psycho at one point in time and how fantastic it was albeit its gruesomeness. So, I had to check it for myself and I really wish I hadn't.

I think with so much drugs and the craziness of the world, all the gruesomeness is in his head and not really real?

I also enjoyed AP. The pages and pages about his bathroom ablutions were a bit hard to work through mind you.

ooh.. I'm with Mags, now i really want to read it! anyone in shanghai got an old copy?

100 years of solitude by Gabriel García Márquez was a killer for me, I just stopped caring about the characters... disappointing to say considering its meant to be a classic... I'm sure ill try it again some time.

I usually feel the need to finish a book once it's started as well. However, two books that I attempted, and gave up on, recently were "Moby Dick" and Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle".

Has anyone here read "The Jungle"?

I don't often re-read books so for me it would be which books have I regretted reading. I just finished The Historian and regret reading it. By the time I realized I was thoroughly bored with it, I felt like I was too far in to quit (it's a very long book).

Kasei, I read Upton Sinclair's 'The Jungle' years ago and really, really enjoyed it. I agree that it might be a little difficult to get into at first, but I thought it was an insightful look at both the trials and tribulations of immigrants to the US as well as the meat processing industry (that still holds true to today).

I enjoyed American Psycho. It was gory indeed but so different than anything else.

Book I will never read again:

I agree. Very informative and he's a wonderfully visual writer. I just couldn't wade through the suffering.
