Brasa Chicken

Postby KJ » Sun Nov 22, 2009 10:47 am

Has anyone tried this new place? There used to be a Peruvian style roasted chicken place on the upper west side of NY that was awesome. I wonder if Eduardos is on target with that one...

Sorry KJ, i don't think it's NY Upper West Side style chicken!

Tried it out at the Cuisine festival, it is pretty bloody good. I think it will do ok.

Haha.
Anyway, it's pretty good (well, it's really the only joint doing it).

Right near our office as well, so we'll be getting delivery quite often.

Make sure you go there soon.

Any Restaurant that Eduardo opens has great food - at least for the first little while. After a month or two is slowly starts it decline.

We got it home-delivered and thorougly enjoyed it.

Decent size, and the meat was really plump, juicy and tender. The skin was crisp and flavoured with herbs and pepper, mmmm. The only downside is that they're extremely oily.

The garlic chips are great, and I liked the "red sauce" the chicken comes with (chilli and tomato salsa mix), however they give a TINY portion which is enough for maybe 2 mouthfuls of chicken - very strange.

It all came packed neatly in a big box and arrived within 30 mins on a rainy evening, so I was pretty impressed.

All in all, I'd say to be spot-on fantastic, they'd need to:

1) lower prices by 30%
2) increase sauce portion by about 5x
3) lessen the amount of oil used to cook the chicken

Are the french fries 'McDonalds' style, or real chips?

Good afternoon, my name is Marco Vargas, Eduardo's brother and business partner on this venture. Thank you for your feedback. Please do not hesitate in letting us know your comments. We look forward to creating a new chain of Brasa's and your imput is very important. Yes, i agree with some comments about consistency on the food. This will never happen to Brasa Chicken because we have a central kitchen and even when we have 10 stores, the product will be the same. Our website is www.brasachicken.com.cn Delivery Hotline 4008202172 We are working towards becoming the healthy alternative to pizza, Mc Donalds and KFC. Brasa Chicken is gourmet, healthy, friendly, fast and delicious but more importantly is great value for money.

Dear customer, we will increase the amount of sauce from now onwards.
The french fries are imported from USA, just crispy and beautiful, to me, is better than McDonalds and are special for delivery as well.
We actually don't use oil to cook the chicken. We marinated it overnight, and roasted slowly for 1 hour. :)

Had Brasa delivered today.

Ordered the family meal which consisted of a whole chicken, one large side, one large salad and 4 sauces and cost 128 rmb.

They use Shanghai Bite as their delivery partner which is nice because their delivery fee's are more than fair - free for less than 2km, 10rmb otherwise - and the service was very professional and food arrived at the time promised.

Everything was neatly packaged, no mistakes and warm.

I've become accustomed to Chinese chickens over the years and was very happy to see the size of this bird! It was quartered, which was nice so we didn't have to fight with food divvying it up. Portion size: A+ Flavor: B+ Sauces: B+ (happy they will serve larger sized sauces, previous poster correct) It was nice but nothing "wow".

Chips/Fries: Had the garlic fries, generous portion and I am sure in the restaurant the quality is fantastic. They are nice, thick, natural cut with skin on and cooked properly. However, through absolutely no fault of the restaurant, this is a product that is difficult to deliver. Served in a sealed plastic container they steam and get mushy. However if you had something with holes in it, all of the hot air would escape and they would be cold, so can't win for losing. I would suggest adding additional side items including steamed vegetable medley. Fries: C+

Salad - Not much of a salad but not bad either. It lacked substance and was pretty bland. Was it bad? No, not at all.. it just wasn't interesting. Salad: C

Now overall it was good and relative to everything else in China, it was very good but I cannot put my finger on it but something was missing. It wasn't special, at least not special enough to order again. It wasn't as if the marinade penetrated the chicken which then produced a rich, unique juicy flavor throughout - it was just some black pepper, garlic and one or two other spices sprinkled on and then baked.

We could have had a helluva much better lunch today for 128rmb all things considered. I'm not knocking the place; if you want very high quality and tasty roasted chicken, this is in my opinion the best place in Shanghai to get it, if you want to spend 128rmb for the family meal.

We are probably just as happy to get a whole roast chicken for 15rmb at Carrefour next time.

It will be interesting to see how the Chinese market reacts to Brasa since they crave Chicken so much. However, is it fried chicken they crave or any chicken? Price will be an important factor for the locals as you can get an entire bucket at KFC with 4-5 pieces of chicken, 6 piece wings, 2 breadsticks, corn on the cob and a 1.5l of Pepsi for around 56 rmb.

Where?! I must be looking at the wrong counter at Carrefour in Cloud 9 - a chopped-up quarter of a mystery bird is about 15.

yeah, plastic container for fries not that good idea. It was like mushed potato, just fried first mashed potato.
And they didn't have chicken soup and wedges today...
delivery was quite fast tho.
I'm sorry. I was wrong. Unfuck you.

Come to think of it, McDonald's delivers their french fries in a paper bag and the they arrive in much better condition. Maybe it's something to consider - some way to retain the heat while losing the humidity.

Ordered take out last night - family style combo with garlic fries.

Took a little while to arrive, but I live in Huang Pu district, and the girl who took my order told me to expect that, so it's not a complaint...

Food was good. Chicken was very tasty - moist and well seasoned. Fries were a little soggy, but I popped everything into the oven while having the salad, and it seemed to help a bit.

Hopefully, the quality and consistency of the food doesn't change as they get more successful. I'll definitely be a repeat customer.

Had delivery to the office today.

Was told 40 mins, took over 70. Called them after an hour, and were informed it had already been delivered. Interesting.

Got the chicken and chips (obviously). Chicken itself was awesome (as i remember it from the Cuisine festival).

Chips, also as i remember from Cuisine festival, which is a bit undercooked. They need a minute or two more in the fryer. They were a bit raw.

Also, for such a messy thing (albeit tasty), not one napkin or plastic cutlery was provided. At least a fork should be provided for the salad. Not everyone is ordering this for home, this was an office.

Therefore, i give them 6.5 out of 10.

If cutlery, napkins and the timing were better, it would have been a 9.

I wouldn't even give them a 6.5. More like a 4 in my book. Took over an hour and 20 minutes to arrive and when it did everything was soggy and cold. The taste was ok but nothing to write home about. The sauces were good, but the skin on the chicken was soggy and not crisp, the fries too and EVERYTHING was cold when it arrived. Overall liked the garden salad best (at least it is meant to be served cold). Can say with all probability that I will neither be repeating nor recommending.

Is this difficult to come by here in China, cause I miss these items so much along with pollo alla brasa. Will you ever have these sides?

Just wondering why would you import french fries from the US?
They don't have potatoes, hot oil and manual labor here in China?

We had some brasachicken here at the office for a taste. We had the chicken, fries, salads, desserts. The chicken was really tender, meaty cuts, well prepared and well spiced. It was great and I will order it again. They use pretty good ingredients. The fries suffered from the same issue that all fries on delivery suffer from ( thread on that somewhere ) .. however, we put them in a skillet and crisped them up a little more and they really were quite good. The salad was fresh and crisp. I liked the salsa's too. Nice touch.. and we did get forks, plate, and napkins.

french fries

Postby brasachicken » Fri Nov 27, 2009 9:30 am

Hello, thank you for your last comment. The french fries are imported only because of the quality. We use local baby potatoes for the other side dish: roasted potato, but in our opinion so far in china and our experience for the last 8 years in shanghai, the best french fries are imported. Most of the western restaurants and hotel use them as well. We do support the local community with the rest of the products, like the chicken is chinese and fresh. The veggies, the packaging, etc. :) I wished we can find the potatoes we have in Peru in China. It will be awesome.
