I'll be traveling back and forth between USA & Shanghai quite a bit. I have come to realize from surfing the web that travel agents in China offer tickets at a significant discount. For example, www.feihongticket.com offer Shanghai-Chicago on AA at Y3800 roundtrip. I can't find anything under $900 in the USA.
At this point, I am tempted to buy my initial travel ticket as a one way ticket to Shanghai, and then purchase subsequent roundtrips after I get to Shanghai.

Does anyone have any opinion on this subject?

If you are travelling alot, ticekts originating from the Shanghai side may indeed be cheaper. Just remember though thgat sometimes quotes are not including taxes. I have done it both ways and it has been fine. If you know you will travel quite a bit, buy an round trip valid for a year (book a return date about a year from departure that can be changed for a fee), use the RT tix from China in between and make sure you use the open ended ticket before expiry to get the best deal as RT tix are not much more than a single one way leg.
