Careful when buying Apple/Mac in Shanghai

Postby horsemandk » Thu Oct 11, 2007 8:26 am

When buying Apple/Mac computers in Shanghai you have to be very careful as many of the shops selling them are not authorized.

One of my clients has come to realize that this can cost you a lot of money as Apple denies support and service on these machines.

The shop in question sold 6 iMac's to my client and the CD/DVD drive in one of them has reading problems and when tested with proper software it's failed as well. The shop doesn't want to help as the system can boot from one of their CD/DVD's and Apple told us that they don't want to help as it was bought from an unauthorized dealer. All CD/DVD's that work in the other 5 iMac's do not work in this particular one, but they don't want to perform the same tests.

A friend of mind bought an iPod at one of these shops I think (Cao Xi Bei Lu) and it was a fake. Looked real enough, but when he brought it in for a repair he was told it was not genuine. The original shop would not refund his money, but they gave him another one, which also broke down. If buying high-end electronics, you should only buy from authorized dealers.

Actually, Apple denies service to authorized places as well.

I recommend getting Apple Care with the product, then they have no excuse.
Even so, its a pain for warranty here for many products - IBM, Apple, Sony etc.

They all try to weasel out of fixing stuff. May as well get in HK, **** the local service agents.
Cheating crooks the lot of them.
