CD prices across from Next Age

Postby ChasingRichard » Sat Feb 04, 2006 5:48 pm

I was just across the street at the 5 DVD stores accross from Next Age mall and the prices they quoted 2 different prices for CD's. CD prices in just plastic rap were 5rmb and CD's in jewel cases were 15 to 20rmb. I have bought lots of CD's in jewel cases for 6 to 7 rmb why are these so expensive?
Also they said the ones in jewel cases are original and the ones in platic rap are copies.
THERE ALL COPIES lol. I don't understand.
Also one observation a chinese woman came in and bought 3 DVD5 for 10 rmb that is 3.3 rmb per DVD.
Thanks
Richard

Hi Richard,

The purportedly "real" CDs most likely ARE real. Original CD, liner notes, etc.

Many parallel imported (legally obtained in a country where they are bound by copyright protection and then exported to another country where the same protection doesn't exist on that same product) CDs are now available across Shanghai.

Can't comment on the DVDs.

Cheers,
Suren

Hi Richard,

They have REAL CDs in that place. I bought a couple of German CDs there for 20 RMB and the quality of the booklets - did not find a single mistake in several pages of German - is too good to be faked.

The music CDs in the nice boxes are real and then RMB 20 is ok? The movie DVDs should be RMB9 for DVD-9 (copy of real DVD), RMB 6 for the series (also copy from original) and RMB 5 for the low quality screencams.

I can recommend the shop on the corner... there is a nice lady there who speaks a little english... she also accepts returns if some of the DVDs don't work.

Yip, that was also my experience. They do not hesitate to take back non-working DVDs...
