check up on my stomach/liver after bleeding

Postby trenchwire » Sat Nov 28, 2009 5:25 pm

Yesterday I woke up after a bad hangover and I had a killer sinus headache so without thinking, before eating anything I had 2 Tylenol Sinus pills with water. After about half an hour I started feeling nauceous and then 60 minutes later or so I vomited blood, this happened twice. I couldn't take any food down which I'm not sure was because of the bad hangover or the Tylenol/acetominephine reaction to the alcohol in my body or both.

Anyway, today I am feeling a bit better but still a bit weak and I feel like I was kicked in the stomach, and it's probably best if I get it looked at, to make sure I didn't permanently damage my liver/stomach with the bleeding caused by the alcohol-acetominaphine combination.

I am American and almost never go to any of the local hospitals in Shanghai, and they seem awful with their long lines and poor service attitude from the staff. Where would people suggest I go to get this looked at?

My Chinese is good (I can even read a newspaper) but when it comes to medical terminology, English speaking staff might be helpful since this is NOT a situation where I would want anything "lost in translation."

I live in Jing'an... so which hospital would people suggest I visit and which department/doctor for this specific problem?

I have Goodhealth emergency travel insurance but I don't think it would cover this, since it was alcohol-related.

Yeah don't want anything to get "lost in translation". I've been to Shanghai United a couple of times and so far so good. Since you have insurance, your out-of-pocket should be minimal. Insurance should cover even if it is alcohol-related.

There's also a clinic in the Portman plaza, ParkHealth or something like that.

Hope you're feeling better. Get it checked-out.

Do you get drunk often and treat the hangover with tylenol? If so, tylenol might be the culprit! Thousands of Americans die every year from internal bleeding caused by tylenol over use and abuse. Before you go off to a Chinese hospital, might I suggest ceasing alcohol and tylenol for a week or two and see how you feel then? And continue to abstain for at least a few weeks more.

KalanStar is absolutely correct not to combine alcohol and tylenol... I have learned my lesson thoroughly. Let this be a cautionary tale to others!
