Children/asthma/pollution/activities

:?:

My husband has been offered a transfer to Shanghai and I would like a little information with regard to bringing 2 daughters aged 13 and 10.

1. My younger daughter can suffer from asthma from time to time and the comments about Shanghai's pollution levels concerns me.

2. Apart from the extra tuition/kids clubs etc are there many open spaces and parks for the children to make their own enjoyment?

3. Is Pudong a predominantly English estate or is it mixed with Chinese?

4. Are there netball/basketball clubs available for my older daughter?

Any comments would be very welcome!

Hmmm...not sure what you have been reading, but you need new sources! I assure you that Pudong is not predominantly English estates.

The air quality is not too great on some days...You should import an adequate supply of medication or consult one of the hospital to find if it's available in Shanghai.

Basketball is very popular so I'm sure it won't be hard to find clubs for her to play with.

As for green spaces, there are large landscaped expanses but generally not for romping...how do your children make their enjoyment?

Overall, Shanghai is a nice place to live- don't be scared. If you give it a chance you will find a pleasant life here and a great place to raise a family.
