China Garden Compound - advice anyone?

Postby florentine » Mon May 25, 2009 1:14 pm

HI,
we're moving to Shanghai in August and just had a weekend of house hunting in HongQiao. We saw a house that we liked in China Garden that's within budget & walking distance of the school our kids will be going to (aged 4 and 5). Anyone have any feedback on China Garden- things we need to know? Are there many international families living there now? It looked nice, but kind of deserted on saturday morning when we went back for second look expecting to see lots of children playing outside.
Thanks!

Hi Florentine

Welcome to Shanghai, We are moving this week to Hongqiao area where you've been looking for the house.

We are moving to VERNAL GARDEN, and it's really nice compound, there are many international families with children.

But I do not know if this place is far from the school of your children.

You can tell your real estate agent about this compound. there are many house empty in this compound and the price is reasonable.

I hope my advice is useful for you and good luck for house hunting.

Cheers!

^ In the same area as Vernal Garden, you've got "Xi Jiao Bao Cheng Garden" on both sides of Jin Bang Rd.

EDIT: Just realized they are called Xi Jiao Bao Cheng Garden on both sides

Anyway, in all 3 compounds there's quite many foreigners. There are school buses picking/dropping foreign kids off outside Xi Jiao Bao Cheng.

The whole area (Fu Qian Rd / Jin Bang Rd) is pretty nice & fairly quiet.
15~20 min walk to New Brilliance Shopping Mall and Song Hong Rd Subway Station, Line 2.

I don't know about China Garden though? Which road is it on?

On Hongqiao Lu, pretty much opposite entrance to the Zoo. I think vernal & Xi Jiao are two blocks down. Thanks for tips, will have a look.

We looked at China Garden when we moved here years ago - it had the nicest inside finishing of all the places we saw (but no oven). We decided not to take it because it meant renting from an individual landlord - we picked a home rented from the compound instead. Over the years this has meant a lot to us - fast repairs/replacements of anything that breaks - a lot of stuff seems to break here!
