Learning Chinese: good textbooks?

Postby cuilan » Mon Oct 31, 2011 7:31 pm

Been learning spoken Chinese through pimsleur which I'm finding very helpful, but there's little to no written material with it. I bought the Mandarin House manuals but found them not very useful (most things written in Chinese / pingyin, virtually no English). Are there any other decent text books for learning Mandarin anyone can recommend? I'm beginner to intermediate.
Thanks for any ideas!

I'm using Boya (博雅) and enjoying it. My teacher recommended this, along with My Chinese Book (or something like that). Boya has pinyin all the way through, at least up to intermediate level. You can find them in all good bookstores. I got mine in the big 7-story bookshop on Fuzhou Lu.
