Chinglish & the "absurdly translated signs"

Postby jinwonghk » Wed Nov 02, 2011 3:11 pm

Just read an article on BBC, it's about a Broadway show that features the problems of Chinglish - the miscommunication between Chinese to English with a lack of taking the the cultural and social assumptions into considerations.

People even bring this stuff on the Broadway stage! Can you imagine how serious it is?

Here are some examples of badly translated signs in China:

A sign in Chinglish by the Yangzi river

An example of Chinglish in the Shenyang airport

Other examples:

False Alarm! became The Siren Lies!
Slippery When Wet! was Be Mindful of the Juicy Surfaces!
Don't Feed the Birds! now read The Fowl Cannot Eat!

What do you think?

Always delighted to see Chinglish translations. I never get bored with them.
