Citi Deli Shanghai (Citideli.cn) don't honour their ad price

Postby one1 » Sat Aug 14, 2010 8:26 pm

They frustrated me and wasted my time recently so thought I would let others know.

I found their ad on their Google Buzz page which says:
"We'll even offer you Buy 1 Get 1 Free for your first online order. Just use "BUZZ" in the promotional code field during online registration. "

So I thought I would try them out and placed my first order. Their website was good and the order went through smoothly showing the discount.

10 minutes later I got a phone call saying that they won't honour that deal anymore and they cancelled my order.

What is wrong with companies these days? They could simply disable the coupon on their website if they don't want it to be used anymore. I could understand if the coupon was a mistake and the pricing was under cost or something like with a computer store.

Surely a company that valued customer loyalty would just deliver the food and then disable to coupon code for new orders.

I don't know what their food is like. It is not cheap; they treat customers badly, so hopefully it is good. I am going to try DeliNYC instead.

Just like the bars that charge 60 rmb for a glass of wine and pour so little wine in the glass. They couldn't push customers away better if they were trying. Even friggin Mcdonalds has bad service and quality here at times and they are the tightest ship around the globe.

I've tried them recently and it's a pretty legit place. They have some good promotions and the quality is way above average.

I've always heard good things about City Deli. Sorry you had this experience. The ad you refer to is from back in March. In my experience restaurant ads older than 3-4 months are often no longer valid (when an expire date is not given). Still, sounds like this could've been handled differently. No reason to lose a new customer over the cost of a sandwich.

Yeah that happened to me too. Had already ordered with my coworker and they ended up calling and saying the deal is no longer valid. If that's the case cancel the promotion code.....we ended up having to go out for food because we had already waited 20 minutes. Never going to their venue nor ordering from them.

What's going on with you guys? Ok, the deal is no longer available and they call you back to inform. No big deal. Never going nor order again? I am sure you wouldn't act like this in your home countries. Why do you think you are that special here?

Actually, i think many people would never going nor order again as well in their home countries when they feel discontent about a service or product.
I leave in the middle that what happened to one1 and aznrurounikj is reason for many people to think the way as they do, cause it is entirely personal for someone to react as they want on a service that has a malfunction.
I know if i feel a service is not correct, i might or might not do the same thing as they do, it will depend on all circumstances. And for sure i will do it back home as well as here!
It has nothing to do with how special you feel, and it has even less to do with the country we're living in. The customer is the king, or at least that's what a good business wants their customers to feel like. If my customers feel unsatisfied about my service, i would do all the possible to change that.

It's just that these two statements of you ...
I am sure you wouldn't act like this in your home countries. Why do you think you are that special here?

... are completely erroneous!

My perception is that many expatriates behave here in a different way they would do in their home countries. They have this "I am the king of the world" behaviour which makes them complain about anything.
I agree in the "customer is the king" principle in F&B. However, I don't think this case is bad enough to criticize that place (and to be honest, I've never been or ordered from there).

Of course, not all foreigners act like I described, but through the years I've been living in SH I've encountered many of these

They would probably not order in their home countries more so than here because they have no choice.

I don't know what is up with these people who want to slam every poster here. The OP had a bad experience and wanted to share it, and I believe he/she is justified. I get tired of the bad service around here too.

They want to use a coupon that was not available anymore.
After 10 min of ordering, they receive a call saying that the coupon is no longer available.

Is it such a bad experience to post it and say that they are not gonna order or go there anymore?

Sounds like the advertising was wrong, they were mislead and disappointed. I guess the way they were treated when they were called is important too.

Anyway, I won't argue about it! It just sounds like they got a bad deal, but the deli seems to want to recompensate, which is a good thing.

I think people share their annoyances here because they don't want others to recieve the same service.

Like so many other places in Shanghai this place has really gone downhill. Never order on the weekends, they let the monkeys run free and make a mess of things (food and service).

That is your right to think this, but it's completely personal the way someone experience something like this, just as their decisions are personal too!
