Coffee.what to drink instead

Postby Magnetron » Wed Feb 08, 2012 5:46 pm

Hi,

I'm a coffee maniac and want to rid myself of my addiction.

Has anyone got a suggestion of what to drink instead?

Please don't say green tea........

What are the healthy or more healthy alternatives?

Answers on a postcard.....or just another post.

What's wrong with coffee??

A growing body of research shows that coffee drinkers, compared to nondrinkers, are:

less likely to have type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and dementia have fewer cases of certain cancers, heart rhythm problems, and strokes

“There is certainly much more good news than bad news, in terms of coffee and health,” says Frank Hu, MD, MPH, PhD, nutrition and epidemiology professor at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Do you not want ANY tea, or just Gren Tea? I assume your still looking for the caffine fix? If that's the case, Tea or Mountain dew may be your only choice, although hot coco is high in caffine

That usually happens if you're an all day coffee drinker as the body gets accustomed to injections of caffeine throughout the day.

For those who have coffee only in the morning (even a huge one like me) there shouldn't be any withdrawals or adverse reactions. :)

In a German documentation about coffee brands the reporter asked differnt people on the street which brand of coffee they prefere. One guy looked as if the reporter was a mad man and said with an italian excent "Coffee? I'm Italian, I don't drink coffee! I drinke Esspresso, Latte Macchiato, Cappuccino, ...".
The face that the reporter made was epic.

Fresh fruit juices, the best.
Get yourself a juice maker and try to make different fruit drinks yourself. Cheap, healthy and delicious.

I was just in Munich for a week. It was my first time to Europe and I could not believe the amount of coffee, espresso, or anything else filtered through a coffee bean, that they drink. Every restaurant, bar, hotel or anywhere else had a espresso or coffee machine. The hotel had free coffee, the airport had free coffee. It was coming out of my ears.

It was like I stepped into heaven.

Anyway, I'm back in China now so.. yeah. Not heaven anymore.

I would imagine that Italy, or perhaps, France would be even better. Or is that one of those things, what do you call them, a stereotype?

if you like it strong then you can always go darjeeling tea. whiskey.... put milk in it so it is OK for breakfast....
Coffee is great, so is tea, beer and pretty much any thing that isn't bought in a plastic bottle in china. I used to drink tea and orange juice in a bottle but no more. Stories of too many chemicals have put me off. I would rather take a flask and have crappy instant 2 and 1 coffee.

Would you like to take hot drink or cold drink?
If you want to take cold drink then fresh fruits juices are very good drink as an alternative of coffee.
If you want hot drink then you can take vegetables soup.

I am not picking on a Newb....Homer, you just happen to be the last on on the thread.

What's an alternative to Coffee?

That's like asking "What's an alternative to air?"

If it is the caffeine that worries you......I vote chocolate!!

7 ounces of dark chocolate should do the trick!

Uncle Platty's Rules in Life
- Never drink "lie" beer.
- Never run for an airplane
- NEVER say "NO" to Chocolate!!!! :D

Caffeine in Coffee

Eight ounces of generic brewed coffee averages 131mg of caffeine, according to the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference. The range is 102 to 200mg. A 16-oz.cup of coffee--the "grande" or medium size in most coffee shops--contains 200 to 300mg of caffeine. A coffee shop's standard 1-oz. shot of espresso averages 75mg of caffeine, while generic brewed espresso averages 40mg. A 16-oz. vanilla latte contains 150mg of caffeine.

Caffeine, a stimulant drug, occurs naturally in coffee beans and cocoa beans and products made from them. Coffee generally contains more caffeine than chocolate, and even decaffeinated coffee contains small amounts of caffeine. In the U.S., food processors do not have to list caffeine content on labels.
What Affects Caffeine Content

Cocoa beans contain caffeine, so the higher the percentage of cocoa in a chocolate bar, the higher the caffeine content. Likewise for coffee--ounce for ounce, the more diluted the coffee drink, the less caffeine. A 12-oz. tall latte contains much less caffeine than a 12-oz. mug of plain coffee. Home-brewed coffee often contains less caffeine than coffee shop coffee because chains such as Starbucks use a higher percentage of coffee to water.

Decaffeinated Coffee

Decaffeinated coffee does contain some caffeine. In a study published in the October 2006 issue of the "Journal of Analytical Toxicology," University of Florida researchers found that 16-oz. cups of brewed regular decaffeinated coffee, a medium coffee at most coffee shops, contained anywhere from 3mg to 13.9mg of caffeine.

Caffeine in Chocolate

A 1-oz. square of unsweetened baking chocolate contains 23mg of caffeine. A large 3.5-oz. bar of very dark chocolate, which contains 70 to 85 percent cocoa, averages 80mg of caffeine. Regular dark chocolate, with 50 to 69 percent cocoa, will contain around 70mg in a 3.5-oz. bar. The same amount of plain milk chocolate contains 20mg of caffeine. Hot cocoa averages 9mg of caffeine per 8-oz. cup.
Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer.....Dave Barry
