Hi folks,

I am moving to Shanghai at the beginning of May to teach for 6 months or so and am wondering where to stay. I am looking for something with a bit of nightlife, not expensive with access to the underground. Could anyone also advise me of any estate agents worth going to. I may also consider sharing a pad.

You can find this all over Shanghai, most expats prefer to live in Puxi as nightlife there is "on the wild side"

Hi,Gregor.Welcome to Shanghai.My suggestion is that you can live in the Jingan district or Zhongshan Park in Puxi.Biyun and Lianyang in pudong is also pretty nice.

Best bet is to come to Shanghai first, stay in a hotel or serviced apartment for a few weeks while you get your bearings. Find and meet agents after you get here in addition to any you may decide to try using via online sources, but the rule of thumb in finding any agent is caveat emptor, there are MANY bad apples looking to fleece foreigners. Don't let any false sense of loyalty keep you from finding the best agent for you.

Other than that, welcome to Shanghai, and if you have any questions, please post more as the community in general here is pretty helpful.

Jing An and Xu Hui district...you still need an agent and they are very helpful most of the time (want to make more money of course if they can)...bring a chinese friend with you will be benificial...
