Cottage Cheese?

Postby ocgirl » Sun Oct 12, 2008 12:50 pm

Does anybody know where to get cottage cheese? I don't think I've seen them at CitiShop or the shop at Jingan Station and the Chinese supermarkets definitely do not have them

I've seen both cottage cheese and ricotta at City shop and at Carrefour, but like a lot of items it can disappear from the shelves for awhile.
Cottage Cheese is Dairy Farmers brand.

I've seen ricotta at Carrefour in Cloud Nine /Zhongshan Park.
I remember it cause it was quite pricey, it was something around 10 Euro for 500g?

Hi Guys
Ive seen Cottage Cheese at City shop in the Portman Centre, but i dont think they buy much of it so its a hit n miss affair if its available all not. Otherwise the Carrefour in HongQuaio have it in there cheese and sliced meat deli section as i saw it and bought some about 3 weeks ago. It wasnt that expensive but still enough to make you spread it thinner on the cracker

latina, it was Carrefour in Cloud Nine, section for imported milk/cheese stuff. (But it was in .... July  .....)

@Michael, yes thats what I'm doing too, making my own yoghurt, curd cheese, cream cheese etc.

However it's a real slow process to make curd cheese so I fear I will never bake my favourite cheese cake in China (need 1kg of curd cheese .... )

tigerduck - what milk do you use to make your own cheese? when I made yoghurt out of the milk here I couldn't get it to get very thick so wasn't convinced that It would work for cheese.

Cottage cheese> It's in the cheese section, near the cream cheese at city shop and carrefour, and pines the market place on Anfu lu. Have seen it at Portmans and Xujiahui city shops, and hongqiao and zhongshan carrefour.

my boyfriend is addicted to it and we usually buy 2 containers every couple of weeks.

New Zealand UHT milk.
I wanted to switch to fresh milk but I still didn't try.

Did u use a Chinese yoghurt for starter or did u use u r own lactic culture?
I'm using lactic cultures as a starter since I don't know if it'll work with the Chinese yoghurt (since it's always sweetened)?

I am using Chinese milk but the starter yogurt is a Ambrosia full fat (blue) yogurt very solid and ferm- It costs rmb5.5 in Carrefour and nearly RMB7.5 at Cityshop.
My yogurts are super thick
