I have just received my L spouse visa, changed from F, in Tianjin, and have 3 months at a cost of RMB 160, and the wife's Hukou was viewed, (which is also mine), and no temporary residence permit is required. ( I keep a copy in my passport). She does not need one, so neither do I. I also have the promise of a 12 months extension next time round.

How can you have hukou and need a visa? What kind of **** are you that you don't even know WTF things are called?

The advice applies to any two NORMAL people. Sad to say, but you are abnormal. Not a big surprise really given most of what you post.

Why do you make it so confusing by using a mix of English and pinyin?

Just use the English to avoid confusing.

^ Is your problem drug induced or is it just simply genetic?

If you don't know WTF hukou is, you are stupider than you have given us to believe. How much more can we dumb it down for you, "that little red book that shows one has registered and is considered a Chinese citizen"?

Isn't the appropriate expression "dumber than a bag of hammers"?

But I am not in the mood to see Moanling Lisa Lee cry and snivel over being labeled something that, scientifically, fits him to a T.

Hi Monalisalee, as a foreigner, you cannot have a hukou in China. Only locals qualify for this, and depending on where they are born, they qualify for certain 'privileges'. It seems that each city/town/province has their own rules and regulations regarding visas for foreigners. Of course, here, money talks, so depending on your contacts or guan xi, some people qualify for more than others.

Since each government office is different, and rules keep changing, it is best to personally go to the appropriate office and inquire and apply in person.

I know what a hukou is, but to those new to China that require the directions you hand out, some of them still have to learn the lingo.

Houkou? Explain how someone new to china has a houkou (for that matter, explain how ANY foreigner has a houkou).

And I might add, the opposite is equally true.

The problem stems from the fact that he is - as far as I know - a foreigner then living (still living?) in the US.

Far, far greater understanding comes by the second and most often, by the third generation of immigrants. This applies across the board.

Actually WangJianShuo lives in Shanghai.

Wang xiansheng is okay - seems like a pretty nice guy - but like too many Chinese people, he sees something in the west and falls in love with it without understanding.

Yes, and foreigners do the same as well. Though some just become jaded expats as time goes on, only giving lip service to some of what is actually good but believing our own self-righteousness about how bad things really are... and yet we stay.
6 years of experiences, good, bad ugly... and survived.

I NEVER SAID FOREIGNERS HAVE HUKOUS.

That was not me.

They were flaming a guy for saying he had a hukou. He obviously did not know what a hukou was.

I blamed them for saying Hukou instead of using the English translation, because I thought this was likely the route of the problem.

Still moronic.

As if we are going to start saying "that little red book that shows one has registered and is considered a Chinese citizen" instead of hukou.

If you don't understand the terms, ask.

Actually, the guy doesn't know much of what anything is.

He constantly screws up terminology / words / sentences / letters of the alphabet and just about anything else you can imagine.

Obviously he is bipolar.
