I picked up a paperback copy of DC Confidentail by the former British Amassador to the US (Christopher Meyer) at Heathrow airport on the way back from the UK this week. A very good read. I have not been able to put it down. At times it is quite funny and at others quite hilarious as he gives his views on politicians in the UK and US of both left and right persuasion.
His writing on the election of GWB and the lead up 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq is also very interesting as are his observations on the behaviour of Tony Blair and his entourage as they visit the US.
While he was slated by many politicians for what he wrote and the potential breach of information considered confidetial by many in the FO and in No.10 I think it is quite refreshing to get information which shows politicians in a more true light.

Just finished it and I can only say that I think more ambassadors should put their thoughts in writing. The section on the lead up to the invasion of Iraq is very very interesting and sometimes flies in the face of a lot of what has been written in the news papers.
