Can anyone tell me is there an English Bookclub in Shanghai? If there isn't there should be.

I think there are some bookcrosser groups, but it would be good to have a decent book exchange club. I would definitely be interested.

The SEA book club has quite a few working women since we meet in the evenings. THe AWC book club is a daytime group. Both groups do have lunches, but they also have trips, cultural events, etc.

and the membership fee, tnmom?

I think SEA is 300 and AWC is 200 for an annual membership - no fee for the book groups. For info: www.awcshanghai.org

To be honest I don't know the ages, the group is just starting up so I've only been emailing with other people. I'm 24 and another girl who's going is 29 (I think! so she says.... :D ). It is a book discussion group, we will choose a book to read the first meeting and then meet to discuss once we have all read it.

Hello

So book club tomorrow...
I'm wondering if someone who is going would PM their number. I'm sure it's in a perfectly obvious place, but that's never stopped me from getting lost!

Thanks.

Hi Schiro, no it's not too late.

We have chosen "Immortality" by Milan Kundera. We are next meeting mid-Movember, I'll confirm the date for you later. You can get the book from Chaterhouse but if they are out, you'll need to order it from amazon or some such.

Hope you can come! :)

Hi,
In another topic someone suggested setting up a place to post information about books that you wish to trade.

I set up a group at Yahoo Groups for a book-swap club in Shanghai. There are two simple to use databases; one for books that you have and are willing to trade, and one for books that you are looking for.

I thought that you might be interested in joining, and possibly swapping books.

There is also a bulletin board where you can announce upcoming meetings of your book club if you want to.

The address is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/shanghaibookswap

Madison: thanks! I'll check here for information about the next meeting... assuming I can get the book AND plow through most of it!

I am interested in the book exchange. I have a heap of books I would exchange. At present I exchange some at The Blarney Stone, but the choice there is a bit limited.

an australian has set up an online book club in Beijing. annual fee is usd100 for unlimited times of borrowing. but i do not have his website. He has more than 1700 second hand but up-to-date books.
if in a good condition, some expat of you will organize a good book club.
i'm a shanghainese but like to read some english
