As most of you probably know, the fair city-state in which I live is facing a serious population shortfall if the locals don’t start reproducing faster. There has been much hand wringing and blame over this, along with many recommendations (some of which are particularly outrageous) on how to get women to have more babies.

A local minister was heard to say that one solution is to bring in more Caucasian males to marry and breed with local girls (ethnic Chinese, of course) in a last-ditch effort to at least stabilize the population. The basis for the recommendation: local girls are more willing to have sex with Caucasians and therefore more likely to get pregnant. The children would enjoy the material benefits of having educated, rich fathers and the genetic advantages of good looks. The minister specifically recommended the white male/local female combination and advised against the opposite pairings, indicating that Caucasian women would imbue in their children “the kind of western values, including feminism, individuality, and self-determination” that contradict the “Asian values” that make this place great.

Why is this an UN issue and why is it a PROBLEM?
