F-Visa, expired overstay

Postby ericst29 » Fri Dec 15, 2006 5:19 pm

However My 1 year multiple entry F visa expires on january 24th 2007 unfortunately I just found out i had another 90 days stay limit till december 4th 2006 before which date i should leave the country. I never thought about this before, once every couple months I was on a trip exept the past 3 months !
What to do now ? any usefull tips how to solve this ?
thanks, Eric

You can go to the immigration office and they'll charge you 500,- RMB a day (sometimes only 5.000,- if they're nice) or you can take your chance at the airport, where if lucky, they wont see and if you get caught you still have to pay.

^ Exactly. I can't see any other alternatives. By the way, when trying at the airport and getting caught, do they let you pay immediately so that you can make your flight or do they make you wait a day or so?

It depends on the length of overstay... if a few days to a few weeks, a kinder immigration official will allow you to pay on the spot and exit. But if the official is grumpy and the overstay lengthy then the airport will require you to cancel your flight and deal with the PSB which can take anywhere between one week to almost three.

Beg ignorance at the PSB. Pay the fine. Unless your company has a lot of sway then there is no way around it. Take care of the problem ASAP! You will still have to pay RMB5000 because that is the maximum and your overstay is over that (rmb500x11 days).

Be prepared to sign a ton of papers in Chinese (there is a woman who speaks English who will tell you what they say, but there will not be a paper English version). Ask for express service. Book another flight within a week or so and bring the documentation to verify it. Have the airline handle providing you with the documentation... meaning book through a Chinese travel agency so they can hold several flights. You will probably be given 10 days to exit the country once the mess is cleared up.

Congrats! Now you are a real China expat! The final step is an overstay and pleading at the PSB. It happens to the best of us!

second floor of the PSB... two old guys take pleas.. sometimes you can get off with a lighter fine if you have a good visa agent. Call some of the companies if you can't be bothered to go through the ropes. I know Dave at Hotsun does about 3 over stays a month and helped me fix my overstay problem. Call him at 13818894237.
