Xiangyang

Anyone know what to pay for one of those "special" Tag Heuer watches that they keep in the back? I was with an American and the guy started out at 850 but wouldn't go below 400. My buddy really wanted it but I told him that I would go back and get it by myself. I saw the earlier post that you shouldn't pay more than 200 for a watch at Xiangyang and wanted to make sure that it applied to those Tag watches as well. Anyone?

I got 2 of the "special" TAG watches for RMB 350 (so say 175RMB each). I had to let them know I was looking at TAG watches specifically and we went through several cases until the better looking TAG watches came out. The guy started at about RMB1,800. It took about 15 minutes of bargaining and three attempts to leave before he settled on RMB 350. I was there early on a Sat morning beforethere were many people around, I don't know if that helped.

price for cuff links

Postby julianleong » Wed Jul 13, 2005 7:24 pm

anyone knows the price of cuff links? There are the lower quality silver and the mont blanc and bvlgari better quality ones. What is the price for the better quality ones?

Leather shoes (Good quality)?
working bag (Good quality)?
Pants?

I went to the so called warehouse and saw a few damn nice briefcase/working bag. It was a Dunhill ad Zegna. It was supposed to be the so called "water goods" with very nice quality. I was with one of the stall owner from Xiangyang market selling jewelry and he told me that the prices should be around slightly less than 1000 each.

Anyone has experiences?

Shoes, no more than 100.
Working bag, assuming you mean a leather briefcase then less than 200.
Pants? no more than 100.

See my post above on the quality.

Watch out for the cheap ones not using the real raw materials...a magnet will stick to the titanium. Actually, I found out later the putter was crap. But everything else is great.

Sorry guy, you got taken. I have a Seiko titanium watch (bought 4 years ago in the US). A magnet does not stick to it.

In fact, a magnet will not stick to titanium. Magnets will stick to non-stainless steels and iron-nickel alloys in general.

Dr. K is right. You can check out this link: http://www.callawaygolf.com/EN/customerservice.aspx?pid=9ways

But either way...as long as the clubs play fine, then whose complaining with the prices.

Did anyone happen to get one of those LV mahjong sets? The guy asked for 800yuan/set, I offered 100 yuan and walked away, without one. Let me know how much those should be.

It's always an advantage to go in the middle of the week, preferably on a rainy day. The fewer people there, the lower the vendors are willing to go. supply/demand...

Noticed that some stalls actually sell those 'smuggled goods/parallel imports' and they do seem to be of higher quality than their 'standard' items. Anyone with experience on these?

Hi,

Some of you guys mentioned that you bought North Face luggage at the market. What does it look like, and how big is it?

Is it like this one?

Somewhat similar... the bag is more rounded. I got mine for 120 RMB. However, the quality wasn't good... the stiching came undone in part of the bag on the way back to Canada.

As I said before, its cheap for a reason.

DVD5 is single layer, DVD9 is double layer. Difference is that DVD9 can store almost twice the data, so usually includes more stuff (like extras for example). May also be better video quality since DVD5 is sometimes compressed to fit on disc, though I can't tell the difference. Original non-fake DVD's you buy are actually DVD9.

software prices?

Postby stalker01 » Mon Jul 25, 2005 4:44 pm

Any tips on what i should pay for computer software at the market? I assumed it'd be as cheap as DVDs, but based on my initial negotiations, I sense it goes for a lot higher. Any input?

Hmmm...

"cashmere" scarf, the smaller size, 15.

Ralf loren or whatevr... "that one with the tiny guy on horse logo embroidered" sweater, I think I paid 45 but it wasn't worth the time going shop to shop. Everyone wanted to go to 60 but a few would go to 50. 45 came from a stupid ordeal. don't go there. lol.

the "extra nice" black jeans I actually like, 150 for two pairs. they would have gone lower on the shittyer ones. lol.

The nice high quality chinese jackets, no patterns, natural fibers, I got 3 for 210. Prolly didn't have to buy 3 but I wanted 3. ?

"oakly" sunglasses 15.

I find if you know how much it should cost and walk in and nail it right off you can circumvent all the hagggling pretty good. It's just when you want to feel around before naming a price that starts that whole bag of shananigans.

oh yeah, as for sunglasses, man you can't get decent lenses at the market. personally I'd rather go to a nice shop on huaihai lu and get real sunglasses that won't hurt my fu cking eyes so bad. xiangyang market sucks. there's so many better places to get ****. but it does have it's advantages... a few things that aren't around the other places cause chinese people don't use them much or whatever.

Yeah the best stuff is stuff that's made in china for export and they just make extra at night with left over materials, but the exact same thing.

Fedor, I talked with a seller in Da An court about a fake yonex today. Very beautiful and good enough. Just a hundred for that. Much better than that one I showed you, (which I bought from Xiang Yang, u remember?). Let's discuss about this tomorrow.

Any DVD/CD should cost the same no matter the content. Whether it contains an XBOX game, PS2 game, movie or computer software. If the vendor tells you different he is lying. CD, DVD5 = 5/6 RMB, DVD9 = 12-15.

Bit late, but reply on Feddupfish post of 18 July: ask the guy from stall B-322/318 (something between 318 and 322, forgot the actual number, after some time your wardrobe is packed with North Face) for the 'North Face excess production ski jackets & trousers'. Quality is definitely better than the regular Xiangyang lu stuff. Prices should around RMB 110-120 if you buy 1, down to RMB 90 is you buy for the whole family). First one bought in 2001 still works fine!
