FaceTime down? by design?

Did the powersthatbe take down FaceTime in China? I can't log in any longer get an error logging onto the service.

Is anyone else having issues?

What do you mean by "logging on to the service"? You don't ever log on you just call the person you want to speak to. It's not like SKYPE. The other person must be on a wifi network at the time you call for it to work.

Yeah, I don't really understand the question
‘How inappropriate to call this planet Earth when it is quite clearly Ocean.’

The way it works on an iPhone is you have to choose someone from your address book that you have called using FaceTime already and you and the recipient need to both be registered on a WIFI network. If you've never called them using FaceTime before you have to actually call them using your phone, then when they answer, you can switch to FaceTime and then any time you want in the future you just use FaceTime directly with that person.

Sorry I mean when you log into the service using your apple ID, you probably don't log in every time since it remembers your credentials.

Click on FaceTime to launch>sign in>enter Apple ID user name and password> then you're usually in unless you're not. The error I get is "The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later"

Though I'm not registering at all. I've used FaceTime in China before from my MacBook Pro and my credentials are correct.

Okay. I see what you mean. I rarely use FaceTime on my MacBook Pro. Will give it a try when I get home.

I'm just surfing around now and it seems to be a Lion problem, great. Will look for a fix but it seems like there isn't one so far with the amount of bitching going on.

I'm steering well clear of Lion for now!

I only installed it because it fixed my printer and sound drivers that 10.6.8 screwed up! which is what you need to install before upgrading to Lion.

This is the fix, worked for me just now!!!

Go to your Applications folder and open face time from there. Do not open it from the Launchpad or your dock.

You can then replace the one in your dock with the one from the applications folder. I'm still not sure how to replace the one in the launchpad.

This also happened for me with iCal, Address book, and a whole bunch of other apple apps.
