FaceTime

Postby Ip Man » Fri Sep 03, 2010 9:00 pm

Has anyone here tried chatting with your families or friends back in your home country using FaceTime on your Iphone4? From my understanding, all you need is a Iphone4 or the new Ipod touch plus Wi-Fi connection and you can start chatting in real time video. Isn't that is a great way to save on your overseas phone call? 8)

Unless Steve jobs gave you and all your friends each an iPhone 4, then no.

Skype works just fine, thank you.

It's just a proposition, but maybe you can facetime to Steve Jobs that he must do better than that. Or you can skype with him about it!

Yeah great! $400 USD phone or a useless $700 massive phone/attempt at a computer just so I can use some retarded Apple copy of software that has been around for 5 years....

Oh and here is what Steve the god was trying to copy:

Been out for over 5 years and it works great. Has Wi-Fi and optional GSM cell card that can use any carrier in the world. Oh and no retarded glowing Apple logo on the back 8)

Kind of big and heavy, isn't it. Plus comes with a conveniently loseable stylus.

Steve obviously failed to make his copy big and heavy enough. Epic fail.
The bottom line here is we must lower our cost base to make room for a lower margin product mix world and to grow our earnings going forward.

What are you anti apple retards trying to prove over here?? I've merely started a post to know the experience with FaceTime in china. Why are you ranting your anti apple sentiments here?
Of course, it's no secret that skype can do video calling for free and with satisfactory result. Skype has been around for more than 5 years already. It's an old technology, really.
There won't be new gadgets or new and improved technologies if everyone is easily satisfied. Don't you hope that everyday there's new invention, new technology and new gadgets that will make your life easier and happier? Why are you guys talk and think like a chinese? Have they brainwashed you already?
Steve and his team are a group of people who are not easily satisfied. They never stop trying to improve on their products. Which is why I like about them. Video calling is not new in the market. But can anyone show me a gadget that are both light and portable with such a function that can equal or better than FaceTime? Same for a tablet PC, it's not a new technology also. But why did Ipad create such a big hoo-ha when steve first launch it?? Within 2 months it sold more than 2 million units!! And now the rest of brands are doing catching up! Why??

Works great. Tryied it today to call my brother in Russia, just like talking in Skype. And not a single phone support Video via Skype, those Nokia phones can video call only Cell network = fail.

P.S.
I'm not "brainwashed Apple freak". But damn, I like my iPhone 4. BTW FaceTime works great, it's basicly iChat, both person shoud call each other only 1 time, then you can call person via FaceTime without even SIM card. Actually you don't even need to call, if you know person's Apple ID (email). It's pretty obvious because iChat use Jabber protocol.

iPhone 4 feels good, runs fast, and I don't care if some Samsung phone have more RAM. For PC and 3DMark points to bragin I have workstation at home (lol, Mac Pro with 2 quad cores and Radeon HD5850). Just hold in hands any HTC smartphone and iPhone and you will feel the difference. iPhone support Skype? Yeah. Can it make phone calls? Pretty much. Can I use it for e-mails and web browsing? Yes. Video chats? Yes, with iPhone 4. Do I need over 9000 shitty Apps and GNU **** made by some retard in his basement that didn't pass Quality Control (becuase Android don't have one) on my phone? No.

My friend across town got an iPhone4 for himself and his mom living in Germany. What I've heard it works really well, u make a regular phone call then touch the FaceTime button and that's it. Skype really sucks compared to FaceTime, or are u going to drag your laptop or USB cam around the house, garage, backyard, basement etc. Main thing for dropping the Skype was when his mom (in her 70's) had hard time using the #^$&@ mouse, and of course that the computer had to be on all the time.

My mom is over 80 y/o so maybe the iPhone4 would be right for her too...nah, then she would call me all the time to show of her flowers and how she met some old friend I'm supposed to know and care about. So maybe it's good she can't even use a computer.

I can see that as a good rationale for using FaceTime on an iPhone 4. Parents have a computer with web cam back in the US, but it would be easier for them to use their mobile device, I think. As for me, it would be more convenient, as well, to catch quick video calls with friends back home whenever I can.

I hope Apple integrates iChat with FaceTime soon ...

Has anyone tried a free app named Tango?

It allows you to do Facetime over 3G. Also, you can do Facetime with other cellphones other than the iP4 if the other phone can install the Tango app.

I want to know what the quality is like on CU's 3G.

Yes, it's a drawback that you can only use Facetime when you are within Wi-Fi range. It works PERFECTLY though. 3G would be good as would the ability to call other non-iPhone 4 users, so I will check out Tango, especially as I now have 1.6GB per month in bandwidth to use, cheers.

Please tell me you don't actually believe this verbal rubbish?

They are a large company with a single intention and this is to make MONEY!

Hence why they leave out features on their products that are already mainstream on all other non apple devices and then remarkably come out a few months later with a new version, wank it all up in the media and people go and upgrade.

Steve Jobs and his Apple company care nothing for you, your friends or improving their products. They care only for money.

I kinda agree with the above, but i buy into it anyway, apple simply makes a superior product. I already know the ipad transition: come december it will have a front facing camera, by summer both front and back camera + video, by next december stereo speakers + a usb input! By next summer sd card slot to expand memory. They could have had all these features in the launch model, easy, but then we would not buy multiple pads. In fact, many people around me (myself included) use hand-me-down ipads from people who upgraded to a 3 g version that came out just a month later

This is the strategy they use. It is marketing 101 and good on them. They are a profit driven company with a single intention in mind and it works for them. I also own an Apple iTouch and it has been a great device in the two years I have owned it.

What gets me is the Fanboi's who rant and rave about the good intentions Apple have for their products and the consumer and their needs. Brand worshipping is an ugly trait and Apple have done a great job (as have many other brands) into getting people to lick their arseholes.

Regardless what phone you use, a lot of this free phone applications just don't work consistently here, due to the abysmal quality and speed of the internet connections here. I was a week in HK over the holidays, and all works like a charm there. Here it's always, sometimes yes, sometimes not. So I can't really be bothered.

Last version of Skype on iPhone was released 9 months ago for 3.2.1 Firmware. Think they will add video call in their new release for 4.1 Firmaware with support of iPhone 4.

Yes. The iPhone 4 has been out for a few weeks only. You have to give them a chance to develop the software to get Skype video on the iPhone for god's sake, if you expect them to have it from day one that's just unrealistic.
