Postby whitehart » Fri Aug 19, 2005 5:56 am

Hi,

I have recently been offered a job in Shanghai and am looking to find a cheap open return ticket from London to Shganghai. Could someone please recommened the cheapest airlines, I will be looking to fly out in 3 weeks.

I am still techinically a student so if you know of any airlines that have student deals let me know!

Thanks in advance for your help

BA/Qantas? Got it for about 450 quid. But let me warn you first, it can be horrendous! The flight that I got was exceptionally hot and stuffy. Plus when I needed to change dates, they won't let me change because of the (cheap) status of my ticket.

Anytime i have came here it has been through virgin although once i used emirates.

emirates was the cheapest flight i could get, something like £405 at the time but it was a long flight and had a 2 hour stop in dubai in the middle of the night which is not the best if fou fly alone.

with virgin the cheapest i got was £450 but that was with set dates and not opened ended. a friend of mine got an open ended ticket and paid something like £510 for it. if its a normal ticket then virgin charges £50 to change the return date. the flight is between 11 and 12 hours and is one of the easiest as far as i am concerned, leaving london at 4pm and arrives in shanghai mid-morning the next day.

China Eastern or Air China, should be cheapest, but now there are so many airlines flying here. Of the European airlines, Turkish Airlines or the Greek one will probably be the cheapest, but you'll have to go via Athens or Istnbul (and be on the old plane for 15 hours).

Direct from London will be China eastern, Air China, Virgin and now BA. BA have recently launched dircet service and they and Virgin are in direct competition which is meaning they are doing promotions, but mostly these are FF miles bonuses rather than discounts.

SAS, Lufthansa, Air France all fly here from London too.

Just check out travelocity, expedia and a few other sites.

BA !!!! 704 euros - go and return tickets but you should take your tickets 2 months before leaving, it's so cheaper !!

There is a price war between BA and Virgin. Check out both before deciding.

Try China Eastern, about £400 return. I doubt they would undercut their travel agents so try Omega travel on the east side of Leicester sq

The problem is that most people who have experienced china eastern for international flights and then tried other airlines will, if they have the option, opt for ba or virgin to the UK.

http://www.go-asia.co.uk from what I hear these guys are by far the cheapest, and are used mainly by the Chinese community.

Good luck
