Full time or part-time Ayi + babysitter??

Postby pkelly » Sun Sep 13, 2009 2:25 pm

We are moving to Shanghai in January 2010 with a 22 month old girl and 3 month old boy.

We originally thought that we would just look at getting a part-time Ayi for about 3 x half days a week for washing/cleaning. We dont want to have a live-in Ayi, but may need someone to do extra hours if necessary on some nights or weekends to help look after teh kids, particularly just to be at home while the kids are asleep if we need to go out.

Can we get a casual babysitter for these extra times, or are we better off having a full-time ayi and negotiate different hours for weeks where we may need them for nights/weekends?

Thanks for your help. Any contacts for casual babysitters would be helpful if this is the way to go.

I would prefer (recommend) live-in ayi. Currently we have bit older very good ayi (mother herself, great with kids) from 9am to 6pm.
Finding good & reliable babysitter has not been too easy. We will later have live-in ayi.

We also have 2 young kids, and did not want a live Ayi. We went through an agency and provided our requirements that we wanted an Ayi who could look after the kids, but also some general housework. Our Ayi works 8:30 - 4:30 5 days a week, and the odd times we do manage to go out she has always been happy to look after them.
As our Ayi also has her own child, we prefer to offer flexibility when asking her to work outside of usual hours, so we'll get her to start at 1pm if we are going out at night, or if we need her on Sunday for a couple of hours we'll have her work only a 1/2 day on the Saturday. I know not everyone would be like this, but we've got a great Ayi who we really appreciate, and we like to be considerate of her as well.
So I would recommend getting a full time Ayi, and just let them know your requirements up front.
Good luck!

I’m a Romanian mother living in Shanghai. I have a teenage babysitter that I pay with 5£ per hour. She takes care of two children of my, 3 and 5 years, and she’s satisfied and do the job very well. We have to move out soon, so if you are interested, contact me. Good luck!

Hello Paul and Kelly,

Your message took my attention because I will be moving to Shanghai by the end of this year. I love children and would like to have a job as a live-out nanny. I would be happy to talk with you and learn more about your preferences/needs to determine whether I can be helpful.

I can also be reached at the following e-mail address: emi.optimistic@gmail.com

Hope to hear from you.

Good luck

Emi.

Hello Paul and Adele,

Would you be interested in sharing a part time nanny with us? we have a 2 year old and 4 month old daughter. Since my husband and I both work, we currently have a live-in nanny. However, I would like to get my current nanny some help to do household work as well as look after our daughters when she is away on vacation or for visa renewal.

We live in Pudong Tomson Golf Villa and we have found a highly recommended Filipina nanny with reference. If you are interested in sharing starting January, please kindly let us know.

Many thanks

Hello,

Been researching the forum for the last 3 hrs on family stuff. I just moved out here with my husband and two kids (2 yrs and 4 month old). We live in Yanlord Town. Are there any recommendations on aiyis or referrals? I'm also looking for a mom's group to meet new folks.

Hi dofoogan, I also just moved here and live in Yanlord Town with my family. I am actually looking for a playgroup so that my 11 months old son and I can meet some new people and have some fun :) Have you joined any groups so far?
