GNC Mega Men MultiVitamins with iron?

Postby GoldenState » Fri Feb 10, 2012 2:55 pm

Hi,

I noticed that the GNC Mega Men multivitamins here in Shanghai contain 18mg iron when every where else (non-China) they contain no iron at all and every one is saying never to take a multivitamin with iron if your a man/guy.. Wth? I wish I had done more research before buying this crap from Watsons at 238RMB for 90 tablets. I've compared the tablets from gnc.com.cn and gnc.com and they are completely different with ingrediants. What I don't get is why the Mega Men MV has 18mg of IRON when on the web it says that men only need about 8mg if taking any iron suppliment, and woman need 18mg.. this is Mega Men not Mega WoMen.. :evil: Why does China always have a "chinese version" of something, it's friggen ridiculuos.

have you tried WH store in the Shanghai Center??, they may have the proper stuff.

Regarding your China question, Chinese people are hopeless so let's not even go there.

Hi condesa,

yes I checked the WH store near the Portman hotel on nanjing rd, but they don't have the GNC brand MultiVitamin :( So I'll guess I'll have to order them online or get them from HK or some where else but not in mainland China.. It's over priced too! On the US gnc.com website for a bottle of 90 tablets its about 20USD which is about 125RMB. So I ended up paying way overboard for not even the proper thing that I wanted.. :( but it's a lesson learned for me. Never buy health products from China, haha just kidding, but do you research first ;)

Try BBA supplements - they stock GNC Megaman vitamins and the supplement facts don't mention any Iron;

http://www.bbasupplements.com/category/vam/multi/gnc%20megamen.php

However, this may well just be an oversight - you could always email them and ask. I actually bought some Megaman tablets last time I was in HK and I am looking at them now - they contain 18mg of Iron, and also state "Distributed by General Nutrition Corporation, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. MADE IN THE USA".

Maybe the BBA supplements are imported whereas the tablets I bought in HK are specially formulated for the Asian market. Maybe people are more prone to anaemia over here?

thanks Chris_S_UK, these are the ones that I'm after! I will email them to check if they are the "US version", these ones are supposed to make your pee a green color.. and supposedly give you an energy boost you can feel after taking them (maybe it's just placebo), but any how those are the ones I would like to get. That's weird about HK having the 18mg iron ones also, they must be the same as the ones sold here in Shanghai. Thanks again for pointing out that BBA supplements website. I may also get some whey protein from there too!

I see on TAOBAO that they have the "US versions" of GNC products, i.e., the multivitamins I'm after and for cheap as well (not sketchy cheap, but equivilant of US prices)! has any one brought health products from TAOBAO and they are not fake or crap? specifically the gnc mutlivitamins (such as the Sport or regular multi's).. ?

Is it insane to use taobao for health or food products??? How can I tell that I'm buying authentic goods? I don't want to buy fake, tampered or expired crap. Reviews and ratings can be helpful in determining if the products are legit although if they're all from chinese people then I might as well just jump ship right? :twisted: So any expat who has had success in ordering suppliments or health products from taobao?

Never mind my dumb questions! I guess I'll have to try my hand and risk being a fool!
159+10RMB (taobao) vs 350RMB (bbasuppliments).. seems worth the risk to me

I think some have probably had success through Taobao - I just don't know anyone personally. I've never tried it for anything I am planning to ingest! Let us know how you get on.
