Good Cheap Restaurants!

Postby bloggergirl » Fri Nov 26, 2010 5:27 pm

Hey Everyone!

We're recently new to Shanghai and we're looking for good, inexpensive restaurants to go visit! I'd love to find a few really good places to go that are under 100RMB for 2 people! Do you know of any? Thanks!

That last post is about a below average tasting Italian place, that is not so bad if you want cheap.

For food under 100 for 2 people try lots of Chinese places in your area and see what you like, too many of them to mention.

After 6 wagas does nice pastas for 36 rmb and you guys could share a cake for around a 100.

share a big salad and sandwich at element fresh for around 120.

lots of deals advertised for specials these days when a place does a promotion.

huge pizza at new york pizza is 108 or even bigger for 118.

zhongshan park stop line two go in the mall I think 6 or 7th floor, sushi place, 10 plates of sushi for 100, or 8 plates and two kirin beers =100. nice big portions 3 sushis to a plate all 10rmb a plate.

dong bei ren two people around a 100 northeast china food.

split a big pizza at demarcos, they give lots of nice free bread.

To me, cheap and good usually don't go in the same sentence.
The few places that I do go for ~100 per couple, are:

Yang's fried dumpling, on Wujiang Lu, in the Four Season shopping plaza.
Tang Gong, on 6th FL in SuperBrand mall, its a Cantonese seafood restaurant, their afternoon dimsum (between 2-5pm) is heavily discounted.
Astro-boy hotpot, right on Huai Hai Lu 2 blocks from Hong Hong plaza, opens until 4am, great for after party bite.

Bulldog used to (maybe still) do the same deal. Buy one get one free.
Utter shite... Plus there was a difference in size/shape/weight if you bought the deal one, instead just buying from the menu...

I'm sorry. Didn't know you were in charge of my taste buds... ?

Yong He is very cheap, yes.
It's a quick meal which in my opinion doesn't taste half bad...

nope.

if fried dumplings and seafood(actually not seafood but cantonese dimsum) are good and cheap, then its valid answer.

your answer of yong he would be valid too, *if* yong he is indeed commonly regarded as good, which i highly doubt.

In Zhong Shan Park, subway exit 7, there's a food-court. There's a Sushi place that does cheap lunch deals.
We sometimes go there for lunch, and both get stuffed for around 40~max50 in total.

Can't remember the name, but it's easy to recognize. Got the 2pcs sushi plates on the belt stuff going on...

Yeah, they are nice. Good food for a reasonable price. And clean
I just was in one of them for lunch last Monday. I don't know how many that chain operates in Shanghai, but it's a lot.

Jia Jia Tang Bao has the best dumplings in town (Huang He Lu)
Noodle Bull (Changle Lu)
Pho Real Lunch Sets (Fu Min)

Honestly can't think of a good western meal thats good for two under 100 that's NOT fast food. (Hey.. fast food tastes good ....sometimes...)

Not been in Jia Jia Tang Bao for years, but last time I visited it was hugely overrated crap.

It is one of those Chinese joints that causes paleskins to cum in their pants in the misguided belief that they have discovered something 'authentic' (i.e. cheap, and reassuringly filthy). We're talking so disgustingly filthy that even a Beijing bar girl (born and bred in a cholera-infested gutter) had misgivings about eating there.

Sad thing is that in the case of Jia Jia Tang Bao, not only will the food likely kill you, it doesn't even taste very good!

Stick to Ding Tai Feng - pricey, but a reliable Taiwanese brand.
Naturally, I finished my set. . .

Saiseriya all the way.

Tuna salad 9 rmb! the spinach is good and healthy, the pasta with spinach, bacon and chillies is good. The rest sucks big time. Dont try the pizzas, the "gratins" and those meals at the end (they are not thaaat bad).

Saizeriya is really good for the price. You can get quite a bit ( pizza pasta salad, sides, drinks) for 100rmb - enough to feed two. They are all over town and usually people waiting for a seat. However, for quality at a reasonable price ( casual dining price ) try Bricco.

Aijisen Noodle shops are pretty good at what they do and you can fill up for 100 for two.

The cheapest are probably the local street food places and there are good ones (like Yangs mentioned above) . And sometimes you have to be careful. Find a good baozi shop in your area ( every neighborhood has one )
If you need a decent v-p-en, pm me for one that works well.

I was thinking Ajisen as well - one of my favourites. They are all over town, quality is consistent, great place to get a decent meal for not much dough.

Ajisen Noodles - something what "must eat". Noodles, sets, tea in atmosphere of japanese restaurant.

~35 rmb/person.

In my memory stored as "aunt with a bowl".
