tram1223, are you just looking for a tailor to shorten your jeans and take in a few things? For the past two years, I've been taking items needing simple alterations to a lady on Wuyuan Lu, between Changshu Lu and Wulumuqi Lu. On that street, there are several women with sewing machines set up on the sidewalk.

The particular one I go to is on the north side of the street, closest to Changshu Lu, just right of the convenience store, and she usually has a handwritten placard in English on a lamppost that says, "I can make alterations". For jeans, with the original hem, she charges 10RMB. If its just to shorten something, its 5RMB

She's done good jobs with fixing many things I've had made at the fabric market that just didn't fit right. She does speak some English.
