yes, there is "one" check it out at www.onewellness.com.cn

I think they're a bit more pricey but won the "best gym award" for 2009.

one wellness averages out to about 600 rmb a month if you sign up for a year membership! The facility is nice though!

Guess I have a suggestion for you. Where I am doing training now is really a nice gym. They have a lot of amazing classes. And my favourite ones are like kick-boxing, some aerobics, martial arts and hell yeah, they have YOGA too!!! So maybe you can try it out. The name is Eternity Fitness.

Not a gym, but if you're interested in Yoga, of the non-"rolling around on your back with your feet in the air" variety, you might check out Red Door Yoga, www.reddoor-yoga.com.

It's right there on Yan Ping Road, just off Xinzha Road.

Not particularly cheap (compared to gym prices) but reasonable compared to other yoga studios, and offering a good safe workout with a small classes (max 11/class), so you know the teacher will be there for encouragement and to make sure you're doing things correctly. The first week is 200 RMB so it's not too expensive to give it a try.

Now Total Fitness has gone to the wall I am searching for a new home.

Yesterday evening I Popped into Wills Gym in Zhongshan Park, From metro exit 7 turn left 50 yards on left.

Was quoted 1900 RMB for a years membership based on off peak hours (10.00 - 18.00) which suits me as peak time was very busy.

Seems pretty clean with all the right machines, plus a small swimming pool. Noticed that there were more sales people hanging around the reception and lounge areas than trainers.

Mate of mine went to Physical in Peoples Square and was given a price of 1450 for 1 year, heard that its a bit of a hellhole in there though.

Will check out MOB on Taixing Lu before making a final decision, any new members there? and best price?

Dazza, thanks for the info on Wills. Internet reviews seem to swing between it being great and it being terrible, but for 1900RMB a year it's worth a try. Those off-peak hours are pretty good too. Any idea whether any classes happen during those hours?

I'm currently a member at California Fitness, which is a great gym and accessible from Jing'an (Jiangning Lu/Nanjing Xi Lu) on the number 23 bus- but difficult to get to from anywhere north of that, like where I now live.

I had a look at the new Wills in Channel 1 Shopping Mall. It's lacking a full range of
resistance machines and free weights. To save money the whole place is occupied by
an Aerobic room and the rest of the space is filled up with treadmills.

Welcome, Decided to join MOB on Xinzha Lu near Taixing Lu which is a 20 mins stroll away from my gaff, 2000 for the year (excludes swimming pool), seems bigger than Wills and most of my old mates from Total Fitness have joined too.

What were the prices of Wills at Channel 1 or MOB? I live very near Channel 1, but MOB might be more convenient for lunchtime workouts.

Sorry, I just noticed that MOB is 2000 for the year. I usually only use the treadmill and some weights, which would you recommend? How much was Wills?

^Update on MOB I got everything included for 2000 RMB, mentioned off peak training hours to them so got even more discount as an Ex Total Fitness member.

Mon - Fri I can train between 07.30 to 18.00hrs

Weekends only mornings and evenings.

However I did visit Star Gym yesterday evening on Jiangning Lu near Kangding Lu, seems the whole building is undergoing some sort of renovation including the gym.

Upside price I was given was 1380 RMB for the year (excluding Pool)

Downside it has been rescheduled to reopen around Feb 2010.

Wills at Zhongshan Park quoted me 1900 RMB for everything (off peak times).

However the salespeople at all gyms will tell you any old porkie pies, in order to sign you up.

(ie) MOB today said lots of people have signed up today so we can give you a discount, reminded them straight away I was offered the same discount 1 month ago..

Anyway quite satisfied with the deal and its much more upscale than Total Fitness ever was.

^I would probably pass on Star now as I was informed they have around 8,000 + members so expect to queue up for everything.

If you want meet us at MOB 1 day, and try and get you a deal. They can only say no.

Wills at Channel 1 is a Reebok branded gym, so it's more expensive than the ordinary Wills. A city-wide Wills membership won't work at the Channel 1 branch or the Golden Eagle one in Jing'An.

Apparently you can do aerobics on a trapeze at Channel 1...

The Channel 1 Wills was around 3600rmb, or there abouts for 2 years. I thought the facilities were good, but its brand spanking new, so should be :)

Its next to my house so undecided whether to join or not.

What were the prices for the Wills in Golden Eagle? That is kind of close to my office. I would like to meet you guys at MOB, when is a good time? Do you work out at lunch?

^ I was quoted around 6000 a couple of months back. Didn't like the place too small and no pool. I usually work out mid afternoon at MOB.
