Help! Lost bank book!

Postby ajgreene » Sat Sep 08, 2007 11:35 pm

Tonight my bankbook for Guangdong Development Bank fell out of my bag in Pudong and is nowhere to be found. I can't find a contact number to cancel the book, which sounds weird, but the bank book actually has a mag strip that one can use to access the account.

Does any one know a number for Guangdong to talk to them?

Does any one know what a dishonest person could get from my account of they have my mag strip bankbook but no password??

I'd appreciate any help here, thanks!

To cancel your account or get a new bank book it is always best to go back to the bank that you started the account at. Take your passport with you. Go there at 9am this morning (Sunday) as I assume they are open today. I don't think you'll get very far calling a bank in China, let alone on a Sunday. When faced with situations like this in China, always best to handle it "face to face" at the original location that you signed up.

GOOD LUCK!

For what it's worth, your account has a password (right?) and it needs to be inputted for withdrawals/transfers. Good luck!

Thank you for your help! I went down in person today and took care of everything, but these numbers will be helpful in the future, I'm sure!

Thanks Adrienne! That was good advice. I managed to find my way back (I was just THERE yesterday changing my password) and I think everything is in order.

Yeah, I was just there changing it from the standard, thank God. But I'm pretty new here and I had visions of some corrupt person finding my book who knows a guy who knows a guy who could empty out my account. Kinda like in the states where you don't need to use a password to buy gas and such.

But I think everything is okay, and I am very thankful. I have more faith in China now. Haha.
