Hi all - your advice on Hotel/Serviced Apartment wanted

Postby NSISH » Sun Mar 09, 2008 11:21 pm

Hello everyone,

I am moving to Shanghai in May, happy to find such a great expat community!

I plan to arrive first week of May and stay in a hotel/serviced apartment for approximately 3 weeks while flat-hunting.

My office will be at CITIC Square, so I want to find a temp place to stay nearby.

Maybe you have in mind some nice hotels and/or serviced apartment to recommend?

• Budget: USD $100 per night (for single room/suite, all service charges and tax inclusive)
• Bathtub and Free Internet
• Easy location to catch a cab

Thanks a lot!

Hi. The Portman is perfect location wise but no where near that budget. You budget sounds very low to me for a hotel. Hopefully someone can come up with something for you. The Kerry Centre Apartment building is also near but I am unsure about prices.

The quotation i received from Kerry Centre 1.5 years ago was around 22K RMB monthly (they quoted me in USD and i personally converted into RMB which was around the figure) for the smallest size of room they have. I remember they requested me to rent the room under my company name and it is 15 min walking distance to Citic Square.
I believe you could find your ideal apartment easily with your budget within a week or two after arrival (Laddoll, 1 or 8 park avenue, Top of City are all within your budget), so it would be ideal if you have the flexibility to spend your given temp. housing budget then you could stay 8 to 9 days in Portman Ritz Calton before you find yourself a permanent flat to stay.
And welcome to Shanghai

URBN Hotel, supposedly China's first carbon neutral hotel, is supposed to be really nice, and it would be about 15 min walk to your work. Definitely within your budget.

Thanks all for your recommendations!

I just googled and found a property agent “Shanghai Pearl Property” (www.shrelocation.com). Looks good (esp. free for tenants). They have also your (yinlin) recommended 1 or 8 Park Avenue, etc.

I plan to contact them for finding my initial accommodation (serviced apt) and my perm apt. Just want to know if anyone have any experience with them. Are they good?

Thanks again!

Btw, checked URBN hotel, looks really nice and exotic!!

NSISH, actually 1 or 8 park is quite popular among the expats circle especially for those who work in Puxi CBD. There is a lady here (in this forum) named Adriene who is always quite helpful to help new arrivals in accomodation issues. Try to send her a PM and she definitely could provide you more suggestions.

hmmm, English isn't the poster's first language - in fact uses Chinese grammar structures -- and in the first thread, is promoting a real estate service.

LOL, not only in the first thread but also the last one. Who knows i am not sharing commission with Adrienne?
Are you another English teacher here? I am quite keen to improve my English and if you don't mind, can you please let me know which tuition centre you are working for as you seem quite fluent in the language and *helpful* in doing grammer and spelling check for the forum administrator?
My last guess, you was one of them who sent me email trying as hard as you could pleadging me to join you together investing in this forum? and your name is Joseph Constantine? I once suspect you worked for African 419

Not you YinLin, I meant NSISH. Don't you think it's strange that the OP has never been to Shanghai and is helpless and clueless and then is suddenly promoting a real estate service?

haha sorry, i just get offensive too easily.
On my opinion, i reckon NSISH maybe just found the property website from google or anywhere else. If that was a company promotion/ advertising, would not be convincing at all to foreigners who have been long staying in Sh especially he seems not even knowing anything at all about property issues in sh.
You are sensitive and probably ever fall into any promotion trap when you first came here.

Wouldn't one have to be some kind of moron to be unable to find a hotel with Internet etc. in central Shanghai for US$100 or under?
Naturally, I finished my set. . .
