HK entry-permit for mainlanders

Postby mrpango » Fri Nov 02, 2007 4:41 pm

Just married the mrs, I am an HKID/British passport holder, she is a mainland passport holder.

Last year we went to HK and she got the entry permit in Hangzhou (home city).

Does the application have to be made in the home city? Would save tonnes of trouble if we could get it in Shanghai, as we're heading over in January... woo hoo!

If she has a Shanghainese hu kou ben (household registration book) she can have the entry permit done in Shanghai.

Congrats on the marrige btw!!

So if she doesn't have that, then it needs to be in Hangzhou then?

Bummer... Wonder if I can apply by post.

Oh and thanks! :D

mm..I have one so I get mine done here. Why dont you ask her to call the office directly? Perhaps there are some new rules that I am not aware of. Last time I saw some peasant-looking people were applying for the permit when I was waiting for my turn..I assume they are not Shanghainese.

lemongrass is correct. w/o it being done there, your wifey's chances of getting a visa to HK are next to nil.

unless she snuck in thru thailand going thru a travel agency like my gf did last time, :-)

^^

For a Thailand visa I paid 300RMB, for a HK permit I only paid 100RMB for the little book and 20 RMB for every single entry.

Once you have the little book you can pay a bit more than RMB20 and get a multi-entry visa valid for one year... if not mistaken.

the mainlander needs to apply for a gang ao tong xing zhen ("hk/macao traveler's license"). it must be done at the registered place of his/her hu kou.

^ No, not always. If you have temporary registration (i.e. a valid job) they will let you apply for the HK travel permit.
