HK Shopping experience in SH?

Postby Selesti » Sun Dec 09, 2007 2:10 pm

After living in Shanghai for 3 months I moseyed over to HK for a day trip, and found myself in shopping heaven in Mong Kok.

My question is, is there anywhere that is similar in Shanghai?!? Clothes here are either cheap/fake/bad quality, or H&M style and up, with prices about the same as the US. For those of you who don't know, Mong Kok has several blocks filled with boutiques/outlets with real international brands (ie. Gap, Talbots, Mexx, etc...) clothes all marked for export but with cut tags, so you pay 10-30% of the list price. I'm not sure if they're surplus, stolen, or defects (prob some combination), but I would LOVE if anybody knows of where I can go to find similar stores in SH.

TIA! :)

Hi there,

There is a large shopping market right underneath No.2 subway station Shanghai Science & Technology Museum stop in Pudong, which is very similar to that in HK. A lot of expats usually visit there. A wide variety of goods are available for sale there.

Science and Technology Metro stop "Copy Market"?
Beg to differ....

Selesti, Mongkok is nothing like the copy mall in Pudong....to use your phrase"Clothes here are either cheap/fake/bad quality",....is a good description of the goods there.

I am sorry I cannot help you find what you really want.
I love Mongkok also....was there yesterday in fact...

Hopefully someone who knows more about shopping in Shanghai than I can help. All I know about is the outlets past Hongqiao...and they are not the same either.
Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer.....Dave Barry

The SH S&T Museum station only have fakes no real outlets. There is a mall at Qipu Road corner Henan North Road (SE corner as there are like 5 huge malls) where you can find some export stuff, even shoes. They are on 2/F and / or 3/F. You need to dig into the small shops as I would say only about 5-10 shops out of 100 sell export stuff. I have seen Lands End, Talbots, Zara, Timberland, Nine West shoes, Black/White, Bebe, Morgan, Liz Claiborne etc, and children's stuff like Gymboree, Izoc, Baby Gap etc.
Happy hunting!
