hey everyone,

does anyone know the going rate for private tutors for children? specifically, 2 children, aged 11 and 13, to be homeschooled every day Mon-Fri for 4 hours each day?

any advice would be helpful!

If you're talking about a real curriculum and fluent English speaking - the international school teachers make decent cash. Maybe cheaper to do the homeschool part-time thing, but still going to cost you a pretty penny here.

desert spider,

i am being offered the position to teach. i currently work only with adults, so i know that rate. the potential employer asked me what my salary expectations were and i just want to make sure i do my homework first.

it is teaching an 11 year old and 13 year old, monday-friday, 9am-1pm. plus, i live in puxi and the home is in pudong. i would take line 2 from zhongshan park to the other end in pudong and back each day... do i request time paid for travel? also, this is a full-term committment through the end of june. do you know what the going hourly rate is?

Yes travel expense, but not the time of travel, plus teaching hourly wage... depending on the curriculum start at 15 USD / hr. and see where that gets you. That'll net you 10k RMB a month on average for PT work, that's not bad for half days.

thanks. but maybe this isn't the job for me. my adult students pay 200 rmb/hour for conversation english... and that is 1-on-1. i thought that teaching children math, english, history/geography and science would pay more than 200rmb/hour....

thanks for taking the time to give information.
