We are new to Shanghai, just moved about 6 weeks ago. We would like to make our son's 5th b-day here special, so we thought about taking a quick trip to Hong Kong Disneyland. But I'm lost as to how to book this trip....
do I contact a travel agent, book through website...if so which site, which travel agents? We'd like to to a package deal w/airfare and hotel all inclusive....but the disney website doesn't have any info on that!

PLEASE anyone with info (websites, phone numbers, costs) help me!!

Hi. We've just come back from a trip to HK and Disney. We booked with Jade from Classic Travel (jade@classictravel.net.cn), she is really helpful.

We used a Dragonair Supercity Plus package which included 4 nights hotel (choice of loads), flights and airport transfers. I'm not sure they are still running the exact same offer, but they do have other offers to HK, including some for Disney so check out their website.

Cost was 15K rmb but that was for four of us and we did chose one of the more pricey hotels. Disney entrance tickets are on top of that and from memory I think was around 800 rmb in total, which includes entrance to loads of shows and all rides.

You don't necessarily need to book your Disney tickets beforehand, we didn't and there was no problem. Avoid the weekend if you can as it's really busy. We went on a Monday and it was great. They had the Xmas programme on with carnival, fireworks etc. Not sure when this ends so you might miss it.

To get to the Disney park is really easy. Just get on the underground (Kowloon side) and you can catch the 'Mickey Mouse' train connection straight to the entrance.

Have a great time. If you get chance take your son on one of the night 'harbour light' boat trips round Victoria Harbour. Boats leave from the Star Ferry in Kowloon at around 7pm. They have a light and music show using the buildings on HK Island and its pretty spectacular. My son loved it!

Not sure what the others think about it , but try to avoid the hotel in disneyland. I can imagine them being well expensive, and on top of it i reckon a full day from 9-5 at disneyland is enough. Been there last year and there are only a few rides and attractions, nowhere near comparison to the other disneylands ....

Agree - avoid the Disney hotels. They are quite isolated and as SirFiddler says, one day is enough at the park to do everything. It is quite small, but sufficient for small children to have a good time.

Disney hotels might be boring for adults but for kids, its a gem.. i have been to every park except the ones in Japan, and yes i agree the HK park is the smallest but for kids its an experience, we have brought ours to Euro and HK disney and even though she finds the one in HK way smaller, just the fact that we in Disneyland is enough to make her very happy.. for kids there you gotta stick around for the nightly fireworks show at 8pm too..

If you're going to spend the effort and money, I'd recommend Tokyo Disney. I have not been to HK but have been told it is very small and crowded. We just chose Tokyo instead and had a fabulous trip - so clean and orderly! A wonderful departure. Also there are two parks there. The DisneySea has a great indoor area perfect for a 4 yr old with old style kiddie rides in fabulous theming. We stayed at the Hilton right across from the entrance and loved it.

Wow, we didn't even think of Tokyo Disney.....hmmm, might have to start looking into that option as well.

We just got back from HK and spent two days at Disneyland - including 2 nights in the Disney Hollywood Hotel (the cheapest one - although it was 1800 per night not including breakfast).

My daughter (6 yr old) did like Disneyland, but the hotel was not really "disney-ish" at all, so not worth the money (except it meant we got 2 days entrance tickets for the price of one). At Disneyland, the queues were terrible - 45 minutes minimum, for things like a merry-go-round! (carousel). I am pregnant and there are only two things "adult" enough to mean I couldn't go on them - 1 roller coaster and a car thing. Everything else was real little kid material - perfect for a five year old, boring for anyone older than about 7 or 8 I'd say.

The park is VERY small - check out the map on the website if you don't believe me. We worked out there were actually only 9 rides and 3 shows! (And that's if you count a two minute "raft" across a river as a ride) The second day, we went in the morning, then had a break in town, then went back at 8pm. The fireworks started at 9pm (pathetic fireworks compared to what I see out my window every week in China), so the second night we used that time to go on the rides when there was no-one queueing. After the fireworks, nearly everyone else went home so we could finally go on things without waiting in line for hours. We got more done in those 2 hours than in the whole day previously. Did every ride in fact.

I have been to the one in Paris, a long time ago, and I thought that HK couldn't possibly be worse, but it was! Maybe Japan is better.

HK was in general a big disappointment, and not worth more than a couple/few days stopover really. Maybe wait until you are next flying in that direction...

Or else splash out and go to a real Disneyland in America - I hear they are actually good.

Sorry to give such a negative report, but It's the truth!
