HongKong <-> Shanghai - What's the cheapest way to do

Postby anon6969 » Tue Mar 25, 2008 4:21 pm

I need to go to Hongkong and back from Shanghai in order to change my visa.

What is the best/cheapest way to do it?
Train? Plane? Via Shenzhen? Via Guangzhou?

Thanks in advance

train via Shenzhen.

It'll maybe cost 800 return if you go hard bed, less on a seat (but are you really that skint?!)

Once you get to Shenzhen just walk across the border and catch the metro.

Sure, train is cheap is you want to endure the 25 hour ride... Sometimes you can get discount tickets...I've flown for as cheap as ¥540 each way via ShenZhen. Then you catch a ¥60 shuttle from SZN airport to border...and then another bus (~$35HKD) from the HKG side to wherever to you headed. Some small local travel agencies can get some good discounted rates。

Direct train to HK, or Plane to Shenzhen+Shuttle to Kowloon if you want a faster way.

Just bought one way plane ticket last minute from Shenzhen to Shanghai for $120. If your time is worth anything, flying may be the cheapest option.

Hi, I was the one selling it; I have 2 train sleeper tickets from SH to HK, they are discounted tickets $295rmb each, departs April 5th 5pm arrive next day 1pm, good way to take in the sights. Can fly back or buy another train ticket in HK back to SH.
Usually it cost near $500 for a ticket, so this save quite a bit.
