Import Duty on products shipped to China

Postby Business_Catte » Fri Oct 15, 2010 11:42 am

Hi, hope this is the right place to post this!

a friend and I want to buy a largish box of tabletop game supplies, worth about 50$US, and have it shipped to my apartment or my office in Shanghai. The products are all brand new and will be shipped in their packaging from a company based in the US. We can't 'sneak the stuff in' by labeling it a gift or anything.

I'm just wondering,

1. What import duty might be levied on such an order?
2. Is there a minimum value that products might have to be over to have duty charges imposed?
3. assuming import duty will be levied, how will we know and where will we pay such a charge?
4. Since this is totally unrelated to my work, might there be any additional complications from having the products shipped to my workplace? I'm here 9-5 mon-fri, and i assume i'll have to sign for the package, so it seems better to ship it to my work than to my apartment.... especially if i have to pay the duty charge when the package arrives.

Any and all feedback welcome! thanks a lot. ::kiss::
