Important question

Postby itv1980 » Wed Jun 21, 2006 6:27 am

Have recently undergone a serious knee operation with a new method to strenghten and replace my meniscus. At the moment my healing process has slowed down and my immune system is rejecting the new implants

Are there any other solutions then the once they presented me:

- completely take the replacement meniscus out and move on without one
- Input titanium or strange metal pins in my knee
- Just by medicin and substance injections let the meniscus grow back (take up to 5 years in wheelcair or walking aid)

Unfortunately this was nesecarry cause it was torn in at first and already used walking aid, but due to an accident regarding an *&^%$ on a bike my meniscus was completely torn.

Just hoping to walk as normal again

Hi itv,

First of all you should pick a very good hospital for the knee surgery and I don't mean a Chinese hospital.

Knee surgery is a serious procedure and if they make a mistake you won't be able to walk without aid (my brother has that problem after bad surgery and he's been in pain for more than 3 years)

Have a look at the options here:

http://www.oralchelation.com/calcium/De ... nt/p14.htm

I recommend that you choose one of the bigger foreign run hospitals here like United Hospital or something similar.

Ivo, are you back home?

You may wish to visit several specialists for a survey of opinion. Surgeons, sports doctors and people who specialize in knees.

I hope that all goes well for you. Keep us updated.

Fortunately I did went back home and had my surgery here in Holland, the method was a new one, which had a success rate of 85%, guess I'm in the wrong side of this one.

There giving me new medicin to see wheter the immunesystem stops attacking the new implants, so still have to wait another week before alternatives have to be selected.

Just have to wait now then :s

That's exactly what the doctors in China told me too. They had to completely replace the knee.
With big change a might loose a large part of my leg too. This kind of operation about knees or other crucial connection/joints points I would ALWAYS prefer to go to Europe or America.

Been injected with a kind of antibiotic to aid in the acceptance of the substance placed in the knee, and get the results back on Monday.

Best case: Acceptance and I can train myself back into shape
Medium case: Have to get a Polymer implant, which might be better
Worse case: Have to get used to do witout and stop the passion of my life and work

Lets hope for the best

Dr Jason Brockwell who is a leading orthopedic surgeon from HK visits shanghai United every 2nd Tuesday, he is an expert on kneee surgery. I doubt that the rejection is immunological as the implants are inert substabces and do not stimulate the immune systen which reacts to foreign protein. I would suggest that you make an appointment with Dr Brockwell. 5133-1919
