International Schools

Postby mamamee » Wed Aug 29, 2007 2:05 pm

I have read a lot of posting related to International Schools in this forums, which is very useful. I will move to Shanghai soon and start to consider putting my kids (7 & 9) into schools. For work reason, my family have to live either in Xin Zhuang or Minghan. I quite like the school of Rego and Concordia. The former is perfect for us, in terms of location, personally I pefer Concordia more than Rego. Could any one share with me if they have experience in these schools? I have made an appointment to visit both of them, anything I should pay attention during the visit?

sounds like you have made a good start by reading the threads on this topic already posted

suggest you make a "check-list" ahead of time of what about a school is important to you and your family - may it be class size, library facilities, afterschool options and similar, to use in evaluating each option because ultimately it comes down to your personal preferences for which school will be the best fit for your children

remember you will most likely be shown around by people whose vested interest lies in the successful marketing of their respective school so don't be afraid to ask the relevant questions if they go unanswered

Where are you from?
My son goes to Concordia and he jsut love it! it's a nice school, we had problems in the first year (problem was a teacher, not the school), but it was solved.
Now he is starting his 4th year there and I like what I'm seeing.
I asked from where you are because is an american school and if you're american you already know their system.

How much is it per year?
Does your husband's company pay for the fees?

Marnamee,
Concordia is in Pudong - the east side of Shanghai. Xinzhuang, Minhang is way on the west side of Shanghai. The travelling time to get from Minhang to Pudong is more than an hour one way if traffic is good.

Rego is in Minhang. In Minhang, there are many international schools. Shanghai American School, British Int School, Western Int School, Singapore Int School etc. These that I mentioned are very close to each other, nestled in an international residential area.

You may want to google them to get their tuition fees information. Shanghai Community Int School is in Hongqiao area, in Puxi.

Minhang is considered Puxi side when the school identify their campus. So when you check their websites, you will see Puxi Campus and Pudong Campus.

Xinzhuang is in Minhang District, on the Puxi side.

Its confusing but if you can download a Shanghai map, it will give you a clearer picture.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the advices. I am from Hong Kong, prior to that, we stayed in Canada for quite a long time. SCIS is also one of the my consideration. May I know if any parents have experience on Rego? I do not see many comments so far. I guess it is better to finding school first, it helps to mininize traveling time for my kids.
