When you take your iPhone to a service provider they usually have sim cutters which will make it the correct size and the tool you need to open the sim door (which I don't think my US iPhone came with). At least that's how it worked with my iPad, but I'll let you know for sure once the 4.1, 2.10.04 unlock comes out and I go through it myself.

Either cut the sim card down to size (there are tools for this), or get a smaller size simcard from China Mobile. They have the micro sims - costs 60rmb to swap out at a China Mobile store.

Yeah, no need to cut the sim cards any more if you use China mobile - you can buy a micro sim from them now.

What is 3G?
Is that good to have if you have an iPhone?

 Is this a serious question, Snuden?

To answer you, 3G is third generation network, which makes mobile web surfing much faster and smoother. If you have an iPhone, or any other 3G phone, and you do need/like using the web while on the go, having a 3G plan would be highly recommended.

Yes it is serious
I have heard about 3G before but never really cared about it.

So if I have 3G, I dont need to be in an area with wifi if I want to connect to the internet?

^Correct. But you do need a data plan; otherwise, your bill may skyrocket. ;)

I have a plan for everything I do!
I will try the wifi thing first, sounds less complicated.

Haha, I just assumed that because Apple made it, it would be a proprietary tool. Thanks for the correction though, I was still looking for that thing today :P

Yes Unicom is a better choice if you are using the internet as you can use their 3G network and of course they provide micro SIMS. If you're just making calls, China Mobile is fine or probably better for coverage.

Does China Unicom also sell the micro SIM cards? I think I would prefer to go with them for the faster 3G.

I went to a LARGER China Unicom store and they cut the sim card for me for FREE but EQUALLY important is to get the dude to SET YOUR 3G SETTINGS while you are there. If he don't do it you don't get internet...
