Is there anyone who knows about TEFL?

Postby aterina » Sun Feb 12, 2012 3:18 pm

Hey all,

I am planning to start a course called TEFL. The target is getting the English teacher certificate when the programme is over. But the course takes only 4 weeks and it is not really convincing to be able to teach English only in 4 weeks. They also guarantee you finding jobs after getting the certificate. But I am still not really convinced.

Did anyone try it or hear about it before? Any good or bad experiences??

I heard it and my German friend is taking it in German right now. She told me it was horrible, they said it only took 40 hours to finish the course, but it seemed a whole year to her. Coz she's not a native English speaker, for example, she can't distinguish the stress in a word. But my Australian friends told me it was easy, coz if you make a mistake in the course, you just do it again. But I'm confused, coz I'm not a native speaker, but you can have a try. Good luck!

The TEFL course was designed and meant to train native English speakers to teach English.

Non-native English speakers could also enroll, however, they might find the course more difficult or challenging.

Is there such a thing as guaranteed employment? If you are TEFL certified, it looks better on the resume and you are more likely to gain employment.

Thank you guys..

At least now I have an idea how difficult it will be for me :(
I am not a native speaker and up to now I've taught English in many countries as a volunteer. I was thinking it would be a good oppurtunity for me to get a real carreer out of it with this certificate programme.

Do you have any training book advices?
